An early morning fire destroyed part of the St. Lawrence Seminary located at 301 Church Street in Mt. Calvary, in eastern Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. The four-alarm fire was reported Saturday, March 8th around 5:30 AM.
Father John Holly told Wisconsin Public Safety that the fire ignited in the oldest building on the campus, which was built in 1870. He said that 190 students attend St. Lawrence Seminary, which is the nation’s oldest Catholic High School Seminary.
About three dozen fire departments from Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Manitowoc, Calumet, and Washington counties assisted the Mt. Calvary Fire Department. No injuries were reported according to officials and all students and staff are safe. Firefighters said the building is considered a total loss.

This is from a 2-11 Alarm fire at 1224 W Melrose 8/4/78
I dove into my audio archives today and found this gem…6/6/87 4-11 2431 S Wolcott 4-11 at Hines Lumber. By the time I arrived it was over.
Chicago, IL 3-11 at Cullerton and Morgan October 9th, 1988
I took this fire in from Hoffman Estates as soon as I heard the still and box. (thank God there was no traffic on the Kennedy Expressway). This was a vacant 6-story factory, 200×150, and they had heavy fire on the 5th and 6th floors when I arrived.
There were several special calls that eventually brought ALL six tower ladders to the scene and all six were set-up and working simultaneously. They would use 6-TLs, 2-ladder pipes and 1 Snorkel along with several handlines to bring this fire under control. TL39 and TL21 were on Morgan street. TL14 was in the rear off Morgan next to Trk 4. Squad 1 was at the corner of Cullerton and Morgan. TL10, TL62, and TL23 were set-up along Morgan Street.
I was lucky enough that the shot with the nose of Squad 1 in the foreground and the corner of the building with heavy fire was on the cover of Firehouse Magazine in May of 1989.
These were all shot on Kodachrome 200, they were scanned and run through Lightroom 5 to adjust the exposures.

Batavia (IL) companies were called for a fire at 106 S. Mallory, the Metal Cast Company. They found fire in a two-story, 75×100, commercial business on the corner of Mallory and 1st, two small neighborhood streets. The attack went defensive early on and a Box Alarm was requested followed by a 2nd Alarm. Issues with the water pressure hampered putting multiple elevated master streams into operation.
Was fortunate to be in the car picking up from another fire in nearby St. Charles when Tri-Com toned out for a possible fire at 1st and Mallory in Batavia. Police reported flames from the 2nd floor window. The Batavia chief arrived and reported a foundry-type bldg, 300X75, well involved and told his first engine to hit it with the deck gun. Immediately he wanted to know who his first two trucks were and pulled a 2nd alarm.
