Waterford Ln. Fire (Shelton, CT) 1/14/21 SHELTON, CT – At approximately 12:44pm on January 14, 2021, the Shelton Fire Department was dispatched to Waterford Lane for a reported kitchen fire.  First units on scene found heavy fire showing from two windows on the D-side of a wood frame private dwelling.  All occupants and pets were reported out of the structure safely before FD arrival and an interior attack was commenced.  Conditions deteriorated quickly as the fire spread rapidly throughout the home and all members were ordered out of the structure for a defensive attack.  A mayday was called during overhaul operations when two firefighters broke through the fire ravished second floor.  Neither were injured and the mayday was quickly cleared.

Des Plaines (IL) firefighters were called to 1108 E. Oakton this afternoon (12/29/17) for a fire in the Car-X Muffler shop, half a mile from Des Plaines Station 62. Upon arrival Engine 62 reported a fire and initiated an interior attack. The size up reported fire visible from two sides and through the roof very shortly thereafter. Companies were soon ordered out of the building to initiate an exterior attack. Both Des Plaines tower ladders were put to work as the incident was upgraded to a working fire.

The B-sector wall failed within minutes and portions of the roof went with it. A MABAS Box Alarm was requested bringing additional resources to the scene. Park Ridge Tower Ladder 36 was sent to the rear for a third elevated master stream supplied by a Rosemont engine.

Shortly after 9, on the night of April 14, 2014, Providence firefighters responded to 55 Plymouth Street for a house fire.  On arrival, Engine 8 found the rear of an occupied 3-decker well involved.  There were reports of people trapped, so engine companies began an interior attack as members of Ladders 2,5 and the Special Hazards performed primary searches.  Another period of high winds in New England is continuing and 30-40mph winds blew through the house, rapidly spreading the fire and trapping several firefighters.  Two Maydays were transmitted and three alarms were sounded.  All of the firefighters were able to make it out, one head first out of a window and landed in the bushes below.  Two firefighters and one resident were taken to RI Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

I arrived about 18 minutes into the fire.  Master streams had been deployed and in two of the included photos, you can see a closed door help back thousands of gallons of water, to the point that the water was coming out of the window of the door.  The weight eventually became too much and the door gave way, cascading the water into the street.

The Lake Zurich Fire Department (IL) received a call just after 5PM on Monday about a fire at Midwest Motors at 540 Cortland Drive. The first engine reported light smoke coming from the eaves. As the smoke grew in intensity, the alarm was quickly upgraded to a Box Alarm. The strip center building was home to a large indoor showroom of high end and exotic used cars.

The fire was on the second floor and in the attic at the southern end of the sprinklered building. Companies held the fire to that portion of the building although there was extensive water damage throughout. Although some cars were damaged, the majority were removed from the building.

Companies at the scene with engines were Lake Zurich (4), Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Fox River Grove, and Barrington Countryside. Trucks were from Wauconda and Arlington Heights , squads from Long Grove and Deerfield, ambulances from Barrington, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Libertyville, and chief officers from Lake Zurich, Wauconda, Fox River Grove, Long Grove, and Buffalo Grove.

Batavia (IL) companies were called for a fire at 106 S. Mallory, the Metal Cast Company. They found fire in a two-story, 75×100, commercial business on the corner of Mallory and 1st, two small neighborhood streets. The attack went defensive early on and a Box Alarm was requested followed by a 2nd Alarm. Issues with the water pressure hampered putting multiple elevated master streams into operation.

Was fortunate to be in the car picking up from another fire in nearby St. Charles when Tri-Com toned out for a possible fire at 1st and Mallory in Batavia.  Police reported flames from the 2nd floor window. The Batavia chief arrived and reported a foundry-type bldg, 300X75, well involved and told his first engine to hit it with the deck gun. Immediately he wanted to know who his first two trucks were and pulled a 2nd alarm.
