Here is another Box Alarm we took in around 0330 in the morning of 8/20/16. It was @ 720 S Green just off Fort St. Engine 29 stretched on a two-story dwelling going throughout. Ladder 8 utilized their main water way.
DC firefighters responded on a Box Alarm to 1905 M St.N.E. for the report of an air conditioner on fire. Engine 10 went on the scene reporting smoke showing in the front, followed by Engine 8 reporting smoke showing from sides B & C.
Units found a room well involved on the first floor and with an aggressive attack of engine and truck work the fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes.
After a search, two dogs were located, rescued ,and happily brought to their owners. Elliot J Goodman
A 21-year-old male received multiple traumatic injuries in a single-car crash in the 5400 block of Sidneys Road north of Walterboro (SC) Thursday evening 25-August at 22:55. The northbound Chevrolet Trailblazer left the roadway in a curve at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed into the southbound lane, struck the ditch and overturned, striking several trees. A large tree impacted at the driver’s side “A” post, crushing the dash onto the patient’s legs, trapping him upside down in the car.
Colleton County Firefighter-Paramedics found the male conscious, but with multiple complaints. Crews began treating him inside the vehicle, while other firefighters began the process of extricating him from the wreckage. The vehicle was stabilized, prior to firefighters using Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver’s door. Crews worked for another 30 minutes to displace the dash and free the patient’s legs. He was extricated with full spinal precautions, then transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 to the trauma center at Trident Medical in Summerville. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Engine 19, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.

At 1724 hrs on 8/25/16 Hartford, CT south end members were dispatched to Broad St & Allen PL for a building fire. Engine 8 reported smoke showing from Park St. after pulling out of quarters and arrived to a working fire at 1258 Broad St. with heavy fire on floors #2 & 3. District 1 struck the 2nd alarm. One member was injured and transported to the hospital. More pictures on my web site.
Wednesday afternoon, the Chicago FD MFAO gave out a water response to 33rd and Kedzie for a person that jumped off the bridge. Battalion 14 arrived on scene and confirmed the incident. I arrived about 5 min after the initial call came in. Crews were throwing ladders down the side of the bridge to the bank of the canal. Within 10 minutes, Squad 1, 6-8-7, and 6-8-1 arrived with divers ready to go. Dive Coordinator 6-8-6 directed Helicopter 6-8-1 and it’s divers into the last known spot where the person went in. 6-8-1 deployed two divers, and within a couple minutes, found the victim and brought him ashore.
Wilmette (IL) firefighters were called to their first fire of the day Monday afternoon just before 2PM (8/22/16) at 1336 Ashland Avenue where workers were apparently on the roof. The initial report was a possible attic fire. The house was located within blocks of Wilmette Station 26 and units arrived quickly reporting smoke from the attic and some visible fire. The alarm was upgraded to the Code 4 working fire which brought mutual aid companies from Evanston, Winnetka, Northfield, Glenview, and Skokie.
The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes though companies remained on the scene for over an hour doing overhaul, venting, and chasing hot spots. Most mutual aid companies were released before 3:30PM when RED Center dispatched another house fire in Wilmette. This will be covered in a separate post.
