Cicero (IL) companies responded to a reported apartment fire at 1401 51st Court early Monday afternoon (1/11/16). Arriving companies had smoke at the eaves of the three-story, frame, multi-unit building. After companies were forced out of the structure they setup for defensive operations and upgraded to a Box Alarm about 30 minutes later.

Several hand lines were used as well as master streams from Cicero Truck 2, Stickney Truck 1201, and Cicero Truck 1. There was a special call for the Forest Park tower ladder which went into service after Cicero Truck 1 was shut down. All Cicero engines were pumping in addition engines from Stickney and Lyons.

Images of companies working at 4177 Midway Lane in Glenview (IL) on 8-25 after lightning struck a house during one of several rounds of violent storms that passed through the area. Heavy smoke on arrival prompted an upgrade to a working fire response which brought mutual aid from neighboring Morton Grove, Niles, Northfield, and Wilmette units to supplement all of the Glenview companies.

Morton Grove Quint 4 was on the road when the call came in, so instead of going back to quarters and jumping to Squad 4 (which was due) they were told to go right to the scene. Ambulance 4 also came to bring the crew strength to five.

At approximately 11:15 today (5-1-14) DuComm dispatched Darien-Woodridge FPD to a possible apartment building fire at 7723 Woodward in Woodridge, IL. As companies went en-route DuComm reported several calls; one reporting a wire on the roof sparking, and another reporting flames. First arriving companies reported heavy smoke at 11:19. Battalion 89 requested a box alarm for heavy fire in the attic space of an apartment building at 11:26, and command requested a 2nd Alarm and reported heavy fire on the 3rd floor and in the attic space of a 3-story, 50X125, occupied apartment building.

Northbrook (IL) firefighters were called to 1434 Lori-Lyn Lane shortly before 7PM on 4-30-14. Upon arrival, they reported smoke and fire visible at the roof and upgraded the alarm. Units in addition to the Northbrook companies to the scene were Wheeling Engine 42, Glenview Truck 14, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Ambulance 52.

After attempting an interior attack, all companies were pulled out of the house when the visible fire overhead increased. Two hand lines and a tower ladder were used and they made quick work of knocking down the flames.

Ayr Ontario firefighters were toned out for a house fire at 1221 Industrial road at 3:52 am on January 29. Cambridge dispatch advised responding units that the house was well involved and all occupants were out. Ayr Car 2 requested New Dundee and Box 690 Canteen while enroute. Ayr responded with two pumpers, two tankers, and their rescue.

Car 2 arrived on scene with heavy fire in the middle of the large bungalow. P4 pulled into the driveway of the house and stretched lines to the front and rear while P1 setup for relay pumping form port-a-tanks out on the road. Cambridge’s tanker was also requested at this time.

New Dundee Pump 21 setup at a nearby reservoir and filled tankers. The temperature was a frigid -35 F with light winds. The large bungalow had a shake roof. The fire quickly spread through the house. Kitchener’s tanker was requested as the fifth tanker. P1 froze up early in the fire. Cambridge’s tanker replaced the pumper until portable pumps could be set up to feed P4. By this point most of the tankers inlets were frozen and tankers had to be filled from the top. Command requested Kitchener P5 to the scene to act as the relay pumper. The pumper is fully enclosed and had no issues with freezing up. The fire was declared under control by 10:00. Damage was pegged at $700,000.
