Chicago’s 18th Battalion battled a working fire in a red-X building at 3849 on Flournoy. Chicago Police helicopter ‘PH1’ called it in on the Zone and reported that there was a house on fire and it was really cooking. Engine 95 deck-gunned it on arrival as they had heavy fire showing from the 2, and then companies led out (2) 2.5” lines while performing an exterior attack. A third line was led out as Squad 1’s Snorkel was set up and flowing water in the vacant lot on Side D.
Here are some images from Sunday morning’s 2-11 on the West Side of Chicago. Engine 117 and the tower arrived and found heavy fire in the rear and in the attic of a 2.5 story balloon frame. Battalion 18 quickly requested a Still & Box and 2-2-4 requested a 2-11 a short time later. The fire got into the D-side exposure building but that structure was largely saved by the companies operating on scene. Tower 14 and Squad 2 worked elevated master streams, and several handlines were utilized as well.
Chicago’s 16th Battalion had a 20×20 frame alley garage on fire in the 5800 block of S. New England Avenue 12-29-16. Companies dropped 2 lines and performed extensive overhaul. Engine 32 took New England and Engine 127 took the alley and led out through the gangway to a hydrant on Newcastle Avenue. E32 E127 T60 TL54 BN16 assigned.
Chicago had a fire in a vacant house at 4620 W Superior around 2200 hours on 11/26/16. Three lines were led out and the roof was opened by T26. The 20×20 frame garage burned completely to the ground and companies had heavy fire inside the home on arrival.
Here are a few shots from this Wednesday’s fire at 304 S 5th Ave, in Maywood, IL (8/17/16). They had heavy fire on arrival in the rear of this large frame house. By the time I got there, companies were having a lot of difficulty chasing the fire in the void spaces up on the second floor and in the attic. Eventually I’ll have a lot more images on my site
7/4/16: The Stickney, IL Fire Department was toned out for a reported house fire around 1510 hours at 4144 Elmwood Ave. Being only 2 blocks from the firehouse, Engine 1201 and Truck 1204 had smoke showing as they pulled out of quarters. Companies arrived on scene with smoke showing from a 1.5 story ordinary dwelling. Engine 1201 made an aggressive interior attack encountering fire in the attic. Two lines were stretched, one was utilized in extinguishing the fire. The roof was opened and companies worked on scene for about an hour and a half before they were returned to quarters. Companies on scene: Stickney Engines 1201 & 1203, Stickney Truck 1204, Forest View Engine 813, Central Stickney T906, and several Stickney Chiefs.
Lyons (IL) companies had a working fire in a bungalow 5/27/16 at 4236 Leland Avenue. First engine had heavy smoke showing from the attic on arrival. 2 lines were dropped, and the roof was opened by Riverside Truck 1629. Some birds were rescued during searches, and the fire appeared to be mostly in the attic. Great job by companies on scene.
