The Chicago Fire Department Englewood Fire Alarm Office received multiple calls for a fire at 57th and Peoria around 11:30 PM (5/15/16). Englewood FAO started in a working fire response. Engine 50 arrived first in and reported they had a 2-story, ordinary, vacant 25×50 with heavy fire on two and in the rear. Squad 5 then called Battalion 6 who was still en route to the scene, and advised that the heavy fire was now getting into the Side D exposure, which was a similarly-constructed building. Battalion 6 requested a Still & Box as companies pulled out to go defensive. Four lines were led out on an exterior attack. Truck 51 was moved from Side A for Tower 39 to take the front and utilize their aerial master stream. Companies on scene: E50 E84 E116 E54 T51 T18 TL39 BN6 Sq5 2-7-4 RIT BN19 T20 BN5 BN15 2-2-1 A1 A49 4-5-5 4-5-8.

Chicago firefighters were sent to 126 E 47th Street at about 10:30PM (11/17/15). Shortly after rival, Battalion 5 requested a Box Alarm for fire in the one-story commercial structure. Companies were pulled out of the building in short order and they went defensive and the fire was upgraded to a 2-11 Alarm shortly thereafter. The fire communicated to the two-story exposure to the east. The original building collapsed and the exposure was gutted.

There were three tower ladders operating master streams along with 6-6-1 the reserve Snorkel plus multi-versals and the deck gun from Engine 19. Conditions during the fire included strong winds and sporadic rain that was very heavy at times.

Chicago rolled up on fire in the basement of a 100×200, three-story, residential (and vacant) over retail late Wednesday night. The basement was fully charged and companies were pulled out before they could initiate an attack with high-expansion foam.

The fire went to 3 alarms and required companies to stay on the scene for another day. Several area photographers were at the scene and there will be a few posts with images.

These are from Gordon J. Nord, Jr. and Steve Redick.
