Chicago firefighters responded to a church at 1540 N Spaulding today (2/20/18) for a fire in the steeple. Master streams from two tower ladders and a squad operated in a defensive posture. The fire did not communicate into the main church. A lightning strike is believed to have caused the fire.

This was an interesting fire. December 1989, a 2-11 at 1705 N Talman. I happened on this in the early stages. Occupants still in the exposure building were just exiting out the back under heavy fire conditions. They lost water for some reason and the back end of the two dwellings really took off. I helped the engineer of 35 make another hydrant down the block after things went sour. After all was said and done I smelled something burning and discovered my knit hat was burning as was my hair from a flying ember!

Chicago firefighters battled a 2-11 Alarm fire with a Haz Mat Level I Tuesday (2/9/16) in an auto repair shop at 221 W. 65th Street.

Chicago had a 2-11 Alarm fire at 1511 W. 18th Street in a three-story brick, apartments over a restaurant. The fire communicated to a similar building to the west and to a garage in the rear.
