Chicago FD Tower Ladder 39

This is from a Still & Box Alarm @ 5213 S Bishop on 12/22/24. Fire was in a vacant, boarded up 2.5-sty wood-frame. Engine 116 had heavy fire from the basement on arrival. A couple minutes in, Battalion 6 stated they were hitting it from the exterior of the building and they were having access problems. Shortly thereafter, Batt 6 pulled the box. They set up Tower 39 in the front of the building, and then set up Squad 5 Snorkel on the D side of the fire building in a vacant lot. Engine 116 had a bad hydrant, making Engine 123 go in-line with Engine 49 to feed them. Engine 50 also was led out with a 2.5” line in the rear, and was also feeding the snorkel.

Here are a few images from yesterday’s Still & Box with a Mayday Alert and EMS Plan I at 5539 S. Damen Avenue. One firefighter was transported in fair condition after the fire flashed through the front door. The building was a total loss.

Wednesday we were out on the south side when we heard Battalion 19 reporting a fire @ 61st and Halsted. First-in companies had smoke from the roof of a 1-sty strip mall, 50×150′. Engine 116 had two lines lead out and Truck 51 was up cutting some holes. Fast changing fire conditions forced Battalion 19 to pull everyone out and go defensive which brought the Still & Box. In total, there were 4 lines led out by Engines 116 & 84. Squad 5 Snorkel and TL 39 went to work with their master streams to knock down the bulk of the fire.

This from Eric Haak:

At a little after 0300 Sunday morning (12/23), Engine 101 landed with a fire in a 1-story, 65×100 truss roof trucking company at 74th and Bell Avenue. Battalion 20 boxed the fire less than a minute later and it would eventually be raised to a 2-11 Alarm. The building was a total loss. Engines 101, 15, 123, and 54 were all pumping at this incident and Tower Ladders 39 and 54 along with Squad 5’s Snorkel were in use as well.
