Some images from a house fire in Wheeling, IL that originated in the attached garage. Garage fires produce great headers and can be dramatic for the first few minutes unless it gets into the house … but in this case, they opened up a 2 1/2″ line just as I was getting out of my car … and it went from thick, black billowing smoke with huge flames … to what you see in these images. If only they’d waited another minute and a half before opening up that line …

Cicero (IL) had a fire in a three-story, brick, residential unit at 5045 W 30th Street that also apparently had living space in the attic. Somewhere around 1:30AM, companies arrived to find heavy fire out the second-floor rear, with flames extending to the third floor and the attic space. They had reports that all but one resident were accounted for, though it was not known if the unaccounted for resident had been home.

After an interior attack, companies were pulled out of the building as fire vented through the roof. A defensive attack was initiated which included a master stream from Cicero Truck 1. The alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm for additional companies around 2AM.

Primary and secondary searches had been completed on the first three floors, but they were unable to search the attic until the bulk of the fire had been knocked down. A victim was later discovered in the attic space.

Residents called the Wheeling (IL) Fire Department Wednesday evening (July 23rd) reporting some sort of explosion in the kitchen at 293 Lincoln Road. When the first police officer arrived, he reported smoke showing and that one person needed medical attention. Firefighters arrived within minutes and confirmed a fire inside the split-level house.

One ambulance transported the civilian to an area hospital and the alarm was upgraded to the working fire. Two interior lines were used to make quick work of extinguishing the fire.

Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Northbrook units responded to the scene in addition to two engines, two ambulances, a truck, and two chief officers from Wheeling.

A citizen called the Northbrook Fire Department (IL)  Monday night around 10:30 reporting fire in a vacant two-story building near the downtown train station. Companies arrived to find fire inside the building at 1856 Walters Avenue and upgraded the alarm to a Code 4 for the working fire.

Northbrook Engines 10 & 11, Squad 12 and Tower 12, Ambulance 10 and Battalion 11 were the initial companies with Glenview Truck 14. The working fire added Deerfield Truck 20, Highland Park Squad 34, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Ambulance 52, and Wheeling Engine 42.

The main body of fire was knocked down quickly from the outside, then companies searched the building for extension and occupants. A Box Alarm was requested for change of quarters companies only as units were tied up at the scene for a while.
