Fire in the attached garage at 204 Fairview Lane in Northbrook, IL 6/22/19
Fire dispatch toned out Wellesley, Linwood, and St Clements for a confirmed garage fire at 74 Parkview Drive, June 7 2019 at 5:35. A Wellesley pumper arrived to a fully involved house fire with the siding on the E4 exposure melting.
Multiple lines were pulled to attack the fire and protect the exposure. Linwood picked up a hydrant on the way in to feed the Wellesley pumper, and a St Clements pumper picked up a hydrant from the north end and pulled multiple lines. The fire started in the attached double garage. Neighbours alerted the family to the fire and the couple were able to safely exit the building.
Crews knocked down the bulk of the fire in 20 minutes. A short in the car parked on the left side of the garage was determined to be the cause of the fire. The owner had just purchased a new electric car which was parked in the right side. Damage has been pegged between $500,000 and $700,000.
Box 690 provided rehab for the fire. Photos and video shot 30 minutes into the fire. The Wellesley Thibault aerial was on its last day of service. The township purchased a used Smeal 85’ tower which they picked up later in the day. The new aerial was used the following day for a house burn.

Kitchener (ON) fire dispatch received multiple calls for 36 Keller Crescent reporting a fully involved house fire, November 25 at 1:20. P5 arrived on scene reporting heavy fire showing from the garage extending up to the second floor. They also had two cars on fire in the driveway and siding melting on the house on the E4 side. A third pumper was added to the call and Box 690 was paged at this time. A 1.5” line was pulled to make a fast attack on the fire. As other firefighters arrived, a 2.5” and 1.5” line were also pulled. The fire was knocked down in 10 minutes with no extension to the interior. I arrived on scene at approximately 1:50. Shot a quick video and one shot of front of building.

Some images from a house fire in Wheeling, IL that originated in the attached garage. Garage fires produce great headers and can be dramatic for the first few minutes unless it gets into the house … but in this case, they opened up a 2 1/2″ line just as I was getting out of my car … and it went from thick, black billowing smoke with huge flames … to what you see in these images. If only they’d waited another minute and a half before opening up that line …
