Chicago FD Canteen 4-0-0 reported to the EFAO yesterday morning (8/10/17) around 4AM of (2), 2-sty frames going at 840 w 53rd Place. Canteen 4-0-2 was a block away at a SWAT call with CPD. Engine 49 arrived and went defensive on a 1.5-sty frame totally involved extending to a 2.5-sty frame to the west. Engine 50, in their new rig, was 2nd up and had numerous lines off. Companies had water problems and the box engines ended up dropping and feeding the attack engines from blocks away. Tower 39 really worked hard, taking the boards off most of the 2nd floor windows, making holes in the roof, and on the front of the building. Squad 5 was in the alley being fed by Engine 116. Towers 39 and 37 were both in spare tower ladders. I arrived after the 2-11, it was very over grown around both of the buildings.

At approximately 0605 hrs on Sunday morning (2/12), the Englewood Fire Alarm Office received several calls for a fire at the intersection of 44th and Shields Ave. in Chicago. Engine 50 landed on the scene and confirmed a fire in a 2.5-story vacant frame with exposure to a 1.5-story occupied frame. Two minutes later, the 2nd Battalion reported he had heavy fire in the 2.5-story and requested a Box. The first image below was taken just before Engine 50 opened up with their deck gun which knocked down a lot of the visible fire in the front. There was a lot of fire extension into the occupied exposure and companies made an interior attack on that structure. Eventually Squad 5’s Snorkel and Tower Ladder 39 were brought down to mop up the remaining fire in the original building which was under rehab. In an October, 2015 Google Streets image, the building was a Red-X and appeared to have had a basement fire in it previously. Eric Haak

The Chicago Fire Department Englewood Fire Alarm Office received multiple calls for a fire at 57th and Peoria around 11:30 PM (5/15/16). Englewood FAO started in a working fire response. Engine 50 arrived first in and reported they had a 2-story, ordinary, vacant 25×50 with heavy fire on two and in the rear. Squad 5 then called Battalion 6 who was still en route to the scene, and advised that the heavy fire was now getting into the Side D exposure, which was a similarly-constructed building. Battalion 6 requested a Still & Box as companies pulled out to go defensive. Four lines were led out on an exterior attack. Truck 51 was moved from Side A for Tower 39 to take the front and utilize their aerial master stream.
