Chicago firefighters had fire in the basement of a loading dock area in a commercial building at 1414 S. Western Avenue on Thursday night, 2/5/15. The high-expansion foam unit was brought to the scene and a special call was made for additional saw blades for companies that spent quite a bit of time cutting through steel plates and thick wood flooring.

Chicago Still & Box 8240 S. Justine Ave 2-3-2015

Around 1AM Chicago Engine 73 pulled up on a 2-sty, 50×75 Ord. with heavy fire in the rear enclosed porches. Due to the weather (19 inches of snow the day before and 8 degrees with a wind chill of zero) the officer asked for the Box. I arrived shortly after the fire was knocked and the companies were doing overhaul.

The Gary, Indiana Fire Department fought 6 fires within 12 hours on Saturday, January 31st.  This was the last of those fires which was dispatched just before noon and was at 24th and Colfax, just 2 blocks north of Station 13.  There was also a fire at 36th and Colfax in the early morning hours.

Like the other 5 buildings, this structure was vacant.  It was a 1-story, 35×50 frame with an attached garage.  It appeared that the main body of the fire was in the rear section that looked like an addition to the original home.  An initial interior attack was made which knocked down a good portion of the fire.  Companies then backed out and the fire in the rear addition was put out from the exterior.  Also pictured are Engines 8 and 13 as well as Truck 2.
