Took in this fire in Gary (IN) on Tuesday (2/24/15) at 6th Avenue and Taney. I arrived well after the fire was out. Fire was in a one-sty frame, 25×40. First companies had heavy fire showing from the roof on arrival. Units on the still alarm were Engine’s 8, & 13, Truck 1, Squad 2, and Medic 404.
The Gary, Indiana Fire Department fought 6 fires within 12 hours on Saturday, January 31st. This was the last of those fires which was dispatched just before noon and was at 24th and Colfax, just 2 blocks north of Station 13. There was also a fire at 36th and Colfax in the early morning hours.
Like the other 5 buildings, this structure was vacant. It was a 1-story, 35×50 frame with an attached garage. It appeared that the main body of the fire was in the rear section that looked like an addition to the original home. An initial interior attack was made which knocked down a good portion of the fire. Companies then backed out and the fire in the rear addition was put out from the exterior. Also pictured are Engines 8 and 13 as well as Truck 2.
