On 9/4/14 the Libertyville Fire Department was doing training with neighboring departments at 2000 N. Milwaukee Ave. In Libertyville IL. When the training session was over, the departments left to go on with the day. Later in the day there was a reported fire in the same place where the training was done. The fire had reignited and caused the first floor of the building to collapse. Libertyville pulled M.A.B.A.S Box 46-49 to the box alarm level for a structure fire. The alarm was then upgraded to the 2nd alarm for tenders only. Tender operations were utilized.  Crews remained working and they Struck out the box. Here are some Photos I took when I arrived at the scene.

While returning from the 3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, I was on the Edens Expressway when Morton Grove was dispatched to a reported house fire at  5845 W. Keeney. The response was upgraded to the Code 4 working fire before units arrived based on a report by police that there was a confirmed fire.

I arrived shortly after the first companies that had already made entry. The fire had burned through the first floor roof of the small split-level house but was extinguished quickly. Here are a few images from the scene.

Took in this job a few days ago. Not much to see firewise but a couple of interesting things. The building was in horrendous shape..several parts of the roof were collapsed (prior to fire) and access was very limited at best. Ironically this was not classed as a red x building. I was able to get some video and photos of a Chicago stripping ladder in use as a battering ram to knock out the plywood window coverings. This is a great tool and pretty unique to Chicago…seldom used for climbing but primarily used to pull up roofing materials during ventilation.. Class A foam was also used at this alarm as well. The squad had a spare snorkel but some decent rig shots were available.

Tones dropped for Washington County (MD) Box 11-2 over the Frederick County dispatch on Sunday afternoon alerting Company 5 (Brunswick) & 20 (Jefferson) for mutual aid to the house fire in Knoxville.  Washington County responded with units from Company 1 (Sharpsburg), Company 6 & 8 (Boonsboro), and Company 11 (Potomac Valley).  Special service units included Washington County Rehab and Air, and Rescue Squad 20 (Special Ops).  Mutual aid units from Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and Loudoun County (Engine 616, Tanker 623, BC 603) responded.

The tanker task force companies setup water supply while Truck 5 ventilated the building.  Both squads (RS20 Jefferson, and RS20 Special Ops) provided RIT.  Fire was knocked quickly and the incident was placed under control within 30 min.  Firefighters remained on the scene for 2 hours.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue units from the 1st, 3rd and 4th Battalions engaged in an intense firefight and performed a rescue on Iris Street in the Aspen Hill section of the county early Thursday morning.  First arriving units encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions in a two-story house.  Firefighters located a victim on the 2nd level and performed a rescue operation using ground ladders.  The victim was removed and rushed to the MedStar Washington Hospital Burn Center with multiple injuries.  Conditions in the house deteriorated to the point of command ordering evacuations from the structure.

According to reports the house had no smoke detectors.  Two firefighters were injured during the rescue operations.  Sadly, the 82-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries.  Cause of the fire remains under investigation but is believed to be arson.

More about the operations and fire can be found in the following reports:

Photos from photojournalist and MCFRS photographer Beverly Jensen, and myself follow.  I arrived later in the morning hours and captured some images of the apparatus on scene and the overhaul operations.  Beverly arrived with the first-due units and captured some stunning photos of the firefight and rescue.

Many thanks to Beverly Jensen and to MCFRS Chief Public Information Officer Pete Piringer (https://twitter.com/mcfrsPIO) for sharing reports and photos from the fireground.
