More images of major extra alarm fires in Chicago from the year 1957.
I attended the Maryland National Capital Region (NCR) Full Scale Haz-Mat Exercise on May 8 at the South Germantown Recreational Park in Germantown, MD. At approx. 10 a.m. a full-scale Haz-Mat drill/exercise box was dispatched bringing a large array of fire & rescue apparatus to the scene including Haz-Mat 728 and Rescue Squad 2 (Wheaton, MD). Two incidents took place during the drill – one was a mock IED detonation in the stadium stands injuring a large amount of attendees; the 2nd incident was a mock chemical release inside the arena building with patients complaining of various symptoms including convulsions, vomiting, and trouble breathing.
Montgomery County Fire & Rescue personnel worked through both scenarios performing full decon of the patients, patient medical care and transport utilizing the MCFRS Mass Casualty units and Medical Ambulance Transport Bus. The drills took 2 hours to complete.
Here are some photos I shot during the drills.

On May 9, 2014, Providence (RI) firefighters responded to 98 Laban Street for a house fire. On arrival, crews found heavy fire in the basement and first floor of an occupied 3-decker. As engine companies stretched lines, trucks began to open up and found the fire spreading through the entire building. All of the occupants were reported to have gotten out and primary searches confirmed that report. As conditions deteriorated, command ordered a second alarm and the evacuation of the building. Exterior operations were initiated and knocked the fire down. After the heavy streams were shut down, companies re-entered the building to mop up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Shortly before 11AM Sunday, May 11th, a motorist reported a vehicle fire up against a garage at the corner of Riverwoods Road and Half Day Road (Route 22) in Lincolnshire, IL. Companies reported a dark header as they got on the road and the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for the confirmed fire that had spread to the attached garage and was threatening the home.
Deerfield-Bannockburn Engine 19 was first on the scene followed by Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Engines 51 and 52. A quick attack with a 2 1/2″ line darkened much of the fire and additional lines were put to use effectively holding the fire to the garage.
Units at the scene were Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Engines 51 & 52, Truck 53, Ambulances 52 & 53, Battalion 51, and Rehab 51 in addition to Deerfield-Bannockburn Engine 19, a Libertyville squad, Buffalo Grove Tower 25, an ambulance from Lake Zurich, and Lake Forest Battalion 42
I arrived after the fire had been knocked down.
