Cambridge Ontario dispatch received a 911 call from A&P Auto Wreckers at 2155 Main St reporting a fire on their property May 5 at 21:15. Four of the five Cambridge stations including the tanker were dispatched to the call on the east side of town bordering North Dumfries Township. P5 reported a thermal column as they left their Main Street fire hall approximately 1.5 miles from the wrecking yard, and asked for two additional tankers (North Dumfries Township). T

here are two large wrecking yards on the property and access to the fire was difficult. Once a gate was opened, workers on scene were asked to move scrap cars to allow A4 access to the fire. P5 set up for drafting while A4 dropped a supply line and set up for tower and hand line operations. Crews had to cut a 10 foot high fence to gain access to the scrap metal that was on fire. A large shed was their first priority to protect. Additional tankers were called from Breslau (Woolwich Township), and two tankers from Puslinch (Wellington County). Tankers filled up at a hydrant on Main St approximately a mile from the fire. Additional foam was brought in from Cambridge HQ. North Dumfries P4 with a full crew was dispatched at 22:15 for additional manpower.

It took over two hours to bring the fire under control. Once the main body of fire was knocked down, heavy equipment was used to break up the piles of metal to fully extinguish the fire. All mutual aid departments were released by 00:30, Cambridge kept a crew on scene for most of the night. Box 690 was on scene for three hours providing rehab.

Fire early Sunday morning (4/12) in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.  At approximately 0143, a Still & Box Alarm was given by the Main Fire Alarm Office for the report of people trapped in a building on fire at 22nd and Wolcott Avenue.  First due companies arrived within one minute of the fire being boxed and reported that they had fire through the roof.  About 0145, the 4th battalion chief requested an EMS Plan I and reported he had fire on all three floors.  2-2-1 took control of the fire at 0151 and ordered a 2-11 Alarm about 3 minutes later.

Just before 0200, companies were ordered out of the building and a defensive attack was initiated.  For most of the incident, there were three master streams working with several hand lines.  Tower Ladder 5 and Engine 23’s deck gun were in sector A and Squad 1A was positioned on Wolcott in sector D.

At around 0300, fire had got into the B side exposure’s cockloft (image 5).  Tower Ladder 39 was then brought in as a 4th master stream.  Engines 23, 18, and 39 were all pumping at the scene.  Thankfully, all 21 individuals who lived in the building escaped without injury.

Adams County Pennsylvania Box 1-8-30 was struck Tuesday evening 3/24/15 at 19:26 hours for a reported house fire on Flickinger Road in Straban Township just off the Lincoln Highway (U.S. Route 30). The Adams County 911 Communications Center advised Gettysburg Fire Chief Hurshel Shank (Chief 1) they were receiving multiple calls for a well involved garage fire.

First due company, the Gettysburg Volunteer Fire Department arrived confirming the dispatch of a fully-involved garage fire attached to a two-story, single-family dwelling. A working dispatch was requested, bringing additional resources for R.I.T., plus tankers and an additional truck company.

A Blitzfire® nozzle was deployed to the garage while the crew from Engine 1-2 advanced a hand line to the alpha side of the house, forced entry, and made a search for occupants as well as beginning fire attack for the fire that was now extending into the living area. Heavy fire was found in the basement as well as the top floor of the house.

Several hand lines were deployed throughout all sides of  the burning structure. The search proved negative for residents, however two family cats were found deceased. The fire was brought under control in about one hour with no injuries to firefighters. Extensive overhaul was needed.

Chief 1 along with the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal returned the following morning to investigate the origin and cause. The fire, which originated in the garage, was ruled accidental. All garage contents were destroyed including a car.
