It was a very busy early morning for southside companies on Monday (2/15). At approximately 1:30 there was a fatal pin-in accident at 85th and the Dan Ryan. Around the same time, Engine 49 landed at 43rd and Packers for an automatic alarm to find a light haze in an industrial building. This was eventually be elevated to a still and box with stacks of cardboard burning but being held in check by the sprinkler system. Companies were at that address for over three hours.
At 3:45 Engine 101 landed with a working fire at 76th and Artesian. One hour later there was another still and box at 5141 S. Princeton which is where these images were taken. Due to battalion chiefs being committed at both earlier fires, Battalion 7 was the still chief at this incident. There were several frozen hydrants and the fire did spread to the occupied home on the “D” side. The original fire building was a frame house that had been converted to a church. I could not confirm but I believe the spare is Engine 122. The other box engine was Engine 5.
On Saturday, Jan. 30, Frederick County Fire & Rescue units were alerted for the basement fire on Greenlea Ct in the Lake Linganore area of New Market, MD. First arriving units from Co. 15 reported smoke showing from the house and confirmed a working basement fire with extension upwards to the first floor of the residence. Fire attack crews found a heavy fire load in the basement and conditions deteriorating quickly. A full working fire dispatch and rapid intervention dispatch was sounded. Additional alarms/special calls for more manpower and apparatus were sounded. Firefighters found hydrants in the neighborhood buried as a result of the recent snowfall from the 2016 blizzard and had to spend time clearing the hydrants before getting water. Units were on the scene for a few hours performing overhaul and investigation. Chief 15-1 had command.
I happened to be at Co. 24 in Walkersville taking photos of their rescue squad rig when the box was struck so I was in good position to get photos on this job.

Around 8 pm reports of a house on fire in the 2800 block of Glenarye Dr. in Lindenhurst (IL) began flooding FoxCom dispatch. Lake Villa FPD units arrived to find a large, two-story home well-involved. Companies went defensive and protected exposures on both sides. Mutual aid from Antioch, Gurnee, and Newport arrived to assist, but with a combination of the high winds, extreme cold temps, and the body of fire found on arrival, the home was a total loss. Exposures on either side recieved minor damage. Jeff Rudolph

Bridgeport, Ct 2nd alarm 350 Hanover St. four houses
02/27/15 Bridgeport, CT – Shortly before one o’clock a box was transmitted for a structure fire at 350 Hanover St. Companies arrived to find they had already lost the fight when they had two, three-story, wood frames going throughout, with two more exposed. Companies could not enter the street due to conditions from previous snow storms, multiple wires down, and radiant heat. Multiple hand lines were stretched and operated as well as multi-versals plus one tower ladder. It took companies about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control. Twelve families were displaced. No one was injured.
