A house fire in Detroit’s 9th battalion at Peerless and Casino. Ladder 23 was making the roof with a great push of smoke. Companies on the Box…. Engines 58, 50, 60, Ladder 23, Squad 6, Chief 9.
Friday (5/18/18) in the 6600 block of N Olmsted in Chicago. Response here was a bit compromised as they had an alley garage at the same time causing a lengthy delay in the arrival of the RIT truck company. Fire had a good hold in the concealed spaces and knee wall areas necessitating considerable truck work. Late in the incident some members were caught in a bad spot on the roof when fire conditions changed rapidly, cutting off access to the aerial. Fortunately the free venting fire was knocked down quickly with inside handlines alleviating the situation.
Truck 9 was able to setup the aerial despite some tough conditions, a narrow street, tree branches, and wires all hindering the effort. One of the last images shows the grateful victims of a rescue. All images all can be seen here.
Firefighters from the cities of Columbus and Worthington (OH) twice responded to a north side Bob Evans restaurant for a fire. Crews had extinguished a fire that damaged the rear of the structure around 3 am, and were initially called back to check the location just before 10am. The first due units however, reported heavy smoke while en route and requested the full working assignment. The second fire completely destroyed the interior of the building, and took three aerials and several handlines over two hours to contain.
Units on scene:
ES2, Battalion 2, Battalion 7, Battalion 101, EMS12, SO2, PIO
Kitchener (On) fire dispatch toned out P2, A2, P3, R1, and Car 23 for an alarm ringing at 9 Bingeman Street May 5 at 9:00. P2 arrived and reported nothing visible. A quick 360 changed the report to a working fire with flames visible at the rear of the apartment. P1 was added to the call at this time. P2 pulled two 1.5” lines in the front while P3 pulled a line to the rear and up the stairs to fight the fire. Crews had a quick knock on the fire, and firefighters were able to get the pets out of the second floor. The fire was contained to the second floor with smoke and water damage to the attic and main floor. Box 690 provided rehab, shots taken 15 minutes into the fire.
