A few minutes before 0500 hrs on Sunday morning (5/22), a working fire response was sent to 6514 S. Ellis Avenue. Engine 63 arrived moments later and confirmed they had a fire. Engine 60 took the alley and used their deck gun on fully-involved back porches, knocking down most of the exterior fire. The 5th Battalion reported he had a 3-story, 75×100 apartment building and requested a still and box. One family was trapped in a third floor apartment and had to be rescued down ground ladders moments before Paramedic Field Chief 4-5-8 requested an EMS Plan I. Fire did get into the rear of several apartments but was controlled fairly quickly. I spent most of my time shooting the rescues so very little firefighting images from the rear on this one. I am unsure if anyone was actually transported from this incident although it did appear that all members of the family were in relatively good condition. It was apparent that working smoke detectors were in the building but it is unknown if that is what alerted the family to the fire.
Northbrook (IL) firefighters responded to an accident Saturday afternoon (5/21/16) in the intersection of Dundee and Waukegan Roads for a collision between a car and a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was thrown through the car’s windshield and was alert when he was transported to Lutheran General Hospital after being extricated.
North Maine FPD companies responded just after 9AM this morning (5/19/16) to 9955 Linda Lane in unincorporated Des Plaines for an explosion. What is being called a gas explosion caused significant damage to a three-story building. A TRT Box Alarm was requested to the 3rd level for technicians and an EMS Box Alarm was pulled as a precaution. One firefighter and one civilian were reported to be transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The Chicago Fire Department Englewood Fire Alarm Office received multiple calls for a fire at 57th and Peoria around 11:30 PM (5/15/16). Englewood FAO started in a working fire response. Engine 50 arrived first in and reported they had a 2-story, ordinary, vacant 25×50 with heavy fire on two and in the rear. Squad 5 then called Battalion 6 who was still en route to the scene, and advised that the heavy fire was now getting into the Side D exposure, which was a similarly-constructed building. Battalion 6 requested a Still & Box as companies pulled out to go defensive. Four lines were led out on an exterior attack. Truck 51 was moved from Side A for Tower 39 to take the front and utilize their aerial master stream. Companies on scene: E50 E84 E116 E54 T51 T18 TL39 BN6 Sq5 2-7-4 RIT BN19 T20 BN5 BN15 2-2-1 A1 A49 4-5-5 4-5-8.
Here are some images of a fire that Chicago had at 118th and Halsted at 0900 hrs on Saturday morning (5/14). There was heavy fire from the 2.5-story frame on arrival and the fire was boxed within a minute of the first companies landing. These views were taken over a half hour in. Most of the fire was knocked down but I did get an opportunity to shoot the newly numbered Tower Ladder 34. Lighting and rig positioning were not optimal but good enough. It had also been a while since I had seen Engine 115 who are now apparently in a newly numbered spare. You can see the numbering on 115’s door is not nearly as big as a normal rig. Don’t know how long they have been in D588.
