Took in this working fire on the 6100 block of South Washtenaw in Chicago on Saturday.  I arrived less than 10 minutes in and the fire was already well under control.  I included a close up of the spare tower ladder that TL39 was running with.  Over the weekend, they were running out of spare tower ladders and both TL34 and TL54 were running as trucks at one point or another.  As you can see, the body wear on these old E-One’s is very evident but it seems like they are in service more than the front line rigs.  It should also be noted that Squad 5 was running with the old air mask rig as their box.  Shop # G-487.  Engines on this were 88 and 101 with Truck 41 and Tower Ladder 39.

Kitchener Ontario Fire received numerous 911 calls for a house on fire at 243 Clark Ave at 3 pm, June 24, 2014. A standard first-alarm was dispatched; two pumpers, a rescue, an aerial, and platoon chief. This was a hot windy day with a severe thunderstorm watch in effect. P1 arrived on-scene and reported a fully-involved house with extension into the house next door. P1 picked up a hydrant, as did P4 on the way in. P6 was added to the call, they picked up a third hydrant on arrival. Numerous 2.5” and 1.5” lines were pulled from all three pumpers. P3 was dispatched as the fourth pumper for additional manpower. The fire started in a car port and spread up into the house of origin and into the attic next door. Crews knocked down the main body of fire quickly just as a thunderstorm rolled through the area. Two motorcycles and two cars were lost in the fire in addition to both homes sustaining heavy fire damage. Damage was pegged at $300,000. The fire started in the car port, cause under investigation.

On July 4th, firefighters in Long Grove, IL and neighboring departments responded to a call for fire on the roof of a large house at 5421 Tall Oaks Drive in an unincorporated portion of the district. First arriving units found heavy fire along the peak of a three-story house and made a quick external attack before taking lines inside. After knocking down the bulk of the fire, they chased spot fires inside and along the peak as they had trouble accessing the affected area from the inside. The area was without hydrants. A 3,000-gallon tanker nursed the attack engine and a supply line was dropped over a the distance of a long block to the main road where two portable tanks were setup initiating a tanker shuttle to supply additional water.

This day started with the primary (Hendrickson) rig going into “the shops”. RS-1 was driven … then it broke down. Someone in the shops had a sense of humor because the final pictures show the replacement was a really old rig that had to follow SS-1A … the engine had no working siren!  When SS-1 was called, 1A, the old engine, and the 625 responded. Then the engine quit working!

Frederick County Fire & Rescue/Frederick City units were toned out for the ’smoke in the house’ Wednesday, July 2nd around 12:00 hours.  Engine 12 (Independent), 23 (Junior), Tower 1 (Independent) and Amb 29 (Junior) responded.  Fumes and light smoke were located in a malfunctioning HVAC unit.  Units were placed in service shortly after arriving.  Here are some apparatus shots.
