  2. Those are interesting shots Fred. Do you remember when all of the Flying Squads were using old Engines as their regularly assigned rigs from 1969 until 1973 when the the New Mack/ Platt
Box Style Flying Squads were put in service?

    • The Mack rig’s weren’t the most comfortable but shielded from weather meant something! I was on a Flying Squad for a day….and all I remember was how cramped, messy and loaded with gear they were! What a breed of guys……

    • Bill – actually, I was assigned to SS-1 on Orleans St when Comm Quinn found out I was a POC in Sun Valley Idaho. He called me into his office, which should have been declared a CFD museum,
and barked at me that if I wanted to be a real Firefighter, then I was to learn the right way. Enter a somewhat modified “internship” that lasted 2 1/2 years. Lt Sutherland took me in and taught me….the hard way! After completion, I was actually offered a job without having to go through the Academy!! …..and of course, like an idiot, I did not take advantage…….
