New Haven 2nd alarm 1303 Chapel St. vacant dwelling
12/25/19 New Haven, CT – New Haven firefighters hoped for a quiet Christmas as they came on shift. Instead, as they pulled out of quarters for the box alarm, companies reported they could see it. Engine Company 6 arrived reporting a top floor fire. Multiple hand lines were stretched as the fire continued to grow. Companies made an interior attack, but were chased out due to deteriorating conditions. A 2nd alarm was transmitted as companies transitioned to exterior operations. Truck companies went to work with a tower ladder and ladder pipe operations. Additional two and half hand lines also flanked the dwelling on all sides to darken down the fire. It took companies about two hours to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire marshals office.

03/01/15 New Haven, CT 922 Winchester Avenue dwelling fire

New Haven firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the top floor of this two and a half story, wood frame around three thirty a.m. Companies initially made an interior attack but were withdrawn due to a water supply issue. The fire soon took hold of the top floor and went through the roof. An exterior attack took about forty five minutes to darken down the fire before companies would regain entry to overhaul. All primary searches proved negative except for the removal of one family pet, a cat, which was found on the first floor. Several families were displaced. No one was injured in the blaze.

This fire was about 0400 hours Sunday morning, near the intersection of Harrison & Clinton in Oak Park, IL. The original fire building, apparantly a 2-1/2 story frame was nothing but sticks when I arrived … totally consumed. The fire had a good hold in exposure 4 and pretty much burned the roof off of that, and was well into exposure 2 as well. The Oak Park tower operated as well as a deck gun and several hand lines. Berwyn set up their aerial pipe at the far end of the block, but to my surprise was able to hit the fire pretty well from that vantage point. Shot a lot of rigs. An interesting job to see in an area I don’t get to much.

Monday morning at 10:34, Adams County Box Alarm 22-3 was struck for the barn fire at 2425 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg Pa.

It was clearly evident from the number of calls the Adams County 911 Center was receiving that this was going to be a working fire. A large black header was visible for miles.

Units were notified on dispatch of a working barn fire. Truck 1 arrived with an 80’ wide by 450’ long barn with fire showing. The barn was being used for storage. No animals occupied the barn. Firefighters were challenged from dispatch as this fire had a large fire load since the building was completely filled with storage items, making it too dangerous to fight the fire from the interior.

Multiple master streams and a ladder pipe from Truck 1 were used to extinguish the fire. In addition there were several propane tanks on the exterior of the building. Firefighters worked fast to cool the tanks. Several pieces of construction equipment were removed from the scene by the property owner as firefighters battled the blaze. It took nearly 2 hours to bring the fire under control.
