E. Rutland Fatal 2nd Alarm Fire (Milford, CT) 1/25/22

MILFORD, CT – Just after 7:00pm on January 25, 2022, the Milford Fire Department was dispatched to the area of E. Rutland Rd and Chevelle Pl for a reported structure fire with multiple calls coming in. Once on scene, first-due companies found a 1 1/2-story cape on E. Rutland with heavy fire showing from the A-side. During operations, firefighters were pulled out of the structure due to heavy fire involvement and had to switch to a defensive stance. Unfortunately, one victim was found deceased during a search after crews were able to go interior. The Milford Fire Marshal along with the Connecticut State Police Fire Marshal will be completing the investigation.

3-Alarm fire in Milford, CT 267 Melba St. Condo units 01/08/17.

Milford, CT firefighters arrived to find an advanced fire condition showing from the second floor of a three-story, wood-frame condo unit. The fire communicated to the third floor unit as firefighters were getting lines in place. Multiple hand lines were stretched and coordinated with truck work to stop the spread of the fire.

Additional alarms were transmitted bringing all of the city’s resources and mutual aid  from West Haven and Stratford. Firefighters dealt with temperatures in the single digits while battling the blaze. The fire was brought under control in an hour through an all interior attack. Six residents were displaced and two dogs were killed. The cause is being investigated. Glenn Duda
