New Hamburg, Ontario fire fighters responded to a fully-involved house fire June 8 at 2:05 am. Baden Fire was requested as units left the hall. A severe thunderstorm had just rolled through the area, and neighbors reported lightning striking in the area. The owners of the house were sleeping, and were awakened to the fire by a neighbor. Damage is estimated at $500,000, with lightning as the likely cause, but it is still under investigation. Firefighters saved homes on both side of the involved building with minimal damage. Box 690 provided rehab. Thirty firefighters were on scene with three pumpers, a 75’ quint, two tankers, and two heavy rescues.
