A large workshop was destroyed in an afternoon fire at 2257 Mount Carmel Road Wednesday 08-March at 13:56. The caller to 9-1-1 reported a trash fire had gotten out of control and spread to the building. Colleton County (SC) Engine 26 arrived minutes later to find fire at the rear of the approx. 50’ x 160’ structure and deployed handlines to the building.

The building housed several vehicles and was used to repair equipment and trucks. It was located approx. ½ mile off of Mt. Carmel Road down a dirt driveway. While maneuvering handlines, a series of explosions occurred in the building which quickly spread the fire throughout the structure. Responding units could see a thick plume of black smoke five miles away.

Engine 26 requested a second alarm and deployed three 1-3/4s, one 2-1/2 straight bore, and the deck gun. Engine 1 set up on the west side of the building and deployed one 2-1/2 Blitzfire. A tractor from the Forestry Commission was also requested for the brush fire. Firefighters worked for 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Several vehicles including a dump truck were damaged or destroyed, the building was completely destroyed. A tractor, some farm implement,s and several thousand dollars worth of tools were also destroyed. Units were on the scene for four hours. Water supply was handled with a tender shuttle.

Engine 1, Engine 26, Tender 1, Tender 5, Tender 18, Tender 19, Tender 25, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 20, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car 107, Car 109, Car 111 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.

Here’s my video from the house fire in Barrington Hills, IL 4/18/15

Occupants that are currently renting the property at 24 Rolling Hills Drive, in Barrington Hills, IL were burning leaves Saturday afternoon (4/18/15) when the fire communicated to a tree before sending embers onto the house. The wind then caused the fire to spread rapidly. A 2nd Alarm was requested on arrival of Barrington & Countryside FPD units followed quickly by an upgrade to a 4th Alarm for tenders only. The 5th Alarm was requested later and then Interdivisional Alarms for a Tender task Force from neighboring Divisions 2 and 5. The previous alarms (which specified tenders only) were later filled out for the suppression companies which brought more personnel to the scene. Four counties were represented at this incident which included units from 6 MABAS Divisions.

The wind carried embers into the grass area behind the home igniting a prairie fire which spread to a large area near the electric transmission lines prompting a Special Alarm for brush fire assets.

Several photographers were at a massive warehouse fire at 1829 54th Avenue in Cicero, IL Tuesday evening. The fire started in a vacant, 3-story brick warehouse with possible squatters. The flames were fierce and quickly spread to the roof of an adjacent 1-story, occupied, commercial structure to the south. Temperatures went from 10 degrees down to 2 degrees with a windchill of -12. Companies encountered frozen hydrants and  limited water to supply all of the master streams.

Two tower ladders, one straight ladder, a TDA, a Snorkel, and a Rosenbauer/Metz platform were all flowing master streams in addition to at least one deck gun from an engine. After the 4th alarm, a task force was requested from a neighboring division with three engines and three more trucks. The Chicago Fire Department sent a ladder, a battalion chief, and then an engine and hose wagon to supply water from Chicago hydrants several blocks away.
