Chicago police officers were sent to investigate a burglar alarm around 7:30AM on Thursday (6/1/17) at 2945 N. Milwaukee Avenue where they discovered a fire inside the furniture store. Firefighters arrived to smoke and fire in the two-story, 80×125 brick building with a partial bow-truss roof and glass storefront. Companies were eventually pulled from the building and initiated a defensive attack. The alarm was raised to a 2-11 and then a 3-11 with elevated master streams from Tower Ladder 21, Tower Ladder 23, Squad 2A, and 6-6-1, the reserve Snorkel.
On Friday, November 25, Chicago had a working fire at 2528 N. Fairfield. The fire was rather small in terms of the time it took for it to be considered out but I did arrive in time for some interesting overhaul shots. There were no front stairs and ladders had to be placed at the doors in order to access the front hallways. The fire appeared to be mostly in the front living room, right at the window but resulted in some hidden fire extending into the wall above the front doors. Accessing this fire was a little difficult due to its location over the area where the stairs were missing. Eric Haak
