On February 29, 2010, the Wheeling Fire Department (IL) received a call reporting fire in a van parked near a mobile home. Firefighters arrived to find the van well-involved with fire already in the mobile home. They stretched several lines to attack the fire and protect the exposures. The address was 188 Phaeton Drive.
Shortly after the above image was taken, a small explosion occurred knocking the red helmet off the officer’s head.

Some images from a house fire in Wheeling, IL that originated in the attached garage. Garage fires produce great headers and can be dramatic for the first few minutes unless it gets into the house … but in this case, they opened up a 2 1/2″ line just as I was getting out of my car … and it went from thick, black billowing smoke with huge flames … to what you see in these images. Residents called the Wheeling (IL) Fire Department Wednesday evening (July 23rd) reporting some sort of explosion in the kitchen at 293 Lincoln Road. When the first police officer arrived, he reported smoke showing and that one person needed medical attention. Firefighters arrived within minutes and confirmed a fire inside the split-level house.
One ambulance transported the civilian to an area hospital and the alarm was upgraded to the working fire. Two interior lines were used to make quick work of extinguishing the fire.
Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Northbrook units responded to the scene in addition to two engines, two ambulances, a truck, and two chief officers from Wheeling.
