Kitchener (ON) fire dispatch toned out a full response from Conestogo and Maryhill plus a St Jacobs tanker for a chicken coup fire at 1492 Maple Bend Road, November 8 2017 at 20:20. A Maryhill deputy chief arrived on scene and reported a working fire in a small shed. The 20×40’ shed had a wood furnace on one side with totes of wood, and a storage shed on the other side. Conestogo pumper set up in the laneway for drafting and firefighters pulled a 2.5” line and split it into two 1.5” lines to attack the fire. Water was shuttled from a pond just down the road from the fire. The steel roof caved in 10 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene. I arrived as the roof collapsed approximately 20 minutes into the fire. Crews were on scene for a few hours pulling what was left of the building apart to get to hot spots. Box 690 provided rehab.
Kitchener (ON) fire dispatch toned out St Clements and Wellesley for a confirmed structure fire at 4404 Hessen Strasse, July 15 2017 at 19:55. St Clements requested a full turnout from Linwood on route to the fire. St Clements pumper arrived on scene with heavy smoke and fire showing from a bungalow. The fire was located in the basement storage room and sauna which was also used for storage. Firefighters pulled multiple lines to the rear of the building to enter the basement via patio doors to attack the fire. Command requested mutual aid for a pumper and rescue from Wilmot Township Baden Station. Wellesley’s pumper set up at a cistern approximately a quarter mile up the road to fill tankers. St Clements and Baden’s pumpers both drafted from port a ponds. The bulk of the heavy fire was knocked down in 20 minutes. Overall took a couple of hours of heavy slugging. Pictures were taken approximately 25 minutes into the fire. Box 690 provided rehab.
Cambridge, Ontario firefighters responded to 16 Lisbon Pines Drive for a house fire May 8 2017. The two-story townhouse was fully involved on arrival. The fire was contained to the unit of origin due to good firefighting and the fire wall doing its job. I had just left the Ontario Fire Chiefs Convention trade show in Toronto with two other Box 690 members when the fire was dispatched. Another member of Box 690 provided rehab before we arrived on scene. The photos were taken approximately an hour and twenty minutes into the call.
Cambridge, Ontario firefighters were dispatched to a confirmed structure fire at 172 Melran Drive March 12, 2017 at 14:15. Dispatch advised responding firefighters that she was receiving multiple calls for the fire. P2 arrived on scene reporting a well-involved house, and a defensive attack to start. Nineteen firefighters were on scene from four stations. The fire was knocked down in 20 minutes, with overhaul lasting another hour. Box 690 provided rehab. Shots taken 20 minutes into the fire.
Elmira (Ontario) fire was dispatched to a confirmed structure fire at 50 Aspen Crescent January 27 at 6:02. P1 arrived on scene to heavy fire venting out the front of the two-story, semi-detached house. Command requested Floradale on the second alarm shortly after arrival. The fire was knocked down in 30 minutes, all firefighting was defensive due to concerns of holes in the floor.
Crews went interior once all the visible fire was knocked down. Damage has been pegged at $350,000. The concrete fire wall between the units prevented the fire from spreading next door. Box 690 provided rehab to the 40 firefighters on scene. Photos start approximately 40 minutes into the fire.

Kitchener (ON) fire dispatch received a call for smoke coming from the vents of a house at Lobsinger Line and Green Hills Road. Linwood and Wellesley stations were toned out on the first alarm January 11 at 14:00. A volunteer firefighter was just down the road at the township office and was on scene in two minutes reporting a working fire. St Clements Station was toned out on the second alarm as well as Box 690 at 14:04.
Crews found fire in the basement and main floor with extension up to the second floor walls. No one was home and the fire was knocked down in an hour. Extensive overhaul needed on all three floors.
Photos taken an hour into the fire when I arrived on scene with the Canteen Truck. Two Box 690 members had rehab set up by 14:30 from their personal vehicles. Approximately 25 firefighters on scene with three rescues, three pumpers, three tankers, and a 82’ quint. Water was shuttled from a nearby cistern at a local church.
