On Sunday morning, April 9th, I had the great opportunity to shoot the Detroit Fire Department at work. I was driving down I94 at Van Dyke when a Box Alarm came in on Van Dyke just northwest of Mack. I arrived and got into position just before the first companies landed. The primary fire building was going throughout with the D side exposure heavily involved and the B side occupied going. The DFD did an incredible job of saving the occupied home under these intense conditions.
Engine 1 dumped their monitor to knock down the fire on the roof of the occupied while Engine 9 connected to a hydrant. Engine 1 then moved out of the way and tagged a hydrant down the block. Companies immediately made entry to the occupied exposure and stretched a line to that building’s attic. Hand lines were dropped to protect the occupied exposure and the first arriving truck directed an elevated stream on the same. When the primary fire building collapsed, the exterior wall fell outward onto the exterior of the occupied exposure. Even with this added obstacle, the exposure was still saved. Hagerstown city (MD) firefighters responded to a reported house fire on Jefferson St. (east side of downtown Hagerstown) Saturday night (2/5/17) around 9:15 p.m. They encountered heavy fire from multiple sides and the attic of the 2-story, wood-framed duplex structure. Command quickly escalated the box assignment to include rapid intervention and safety assignments. Crews aggressively worked the interior of the duplex but were pushed back by heavy fire and smoke. Evacuation tones were sounded multiple times during the first 20 minutes of the incident.
Interior teams re-entered the complex and knocked the heavy fire. Truck companies worked the roof and attic areas to expose fire that had extended into the walls. All occupants of the duplex self evacuated. Crews remained on scene for hours to perform overhaul.
Command ordered an additional engine and squad company and eventually a 2nd alarm for manpower to assist the initial crews. Companies from Washington County including Longmeadow, Funkstown, Maugansville, Halfway, Washington County Special Operations, the Rehab and Air units assisted in the incident.
On 1/5/17 at 2146 hours, Hartford, CT north-end companies were dispatched to the area of Deerfield Ave & Greenfield St. for a structure fire. First due Engine 14 arrived to find heavy smoke showing from a vacant building at 59 Deerfield Ave. Companies made a good push in knocking down fire on floor’s #1&2 but were unable to get into the attic due to holes in the floors. The Round Lake FPD had a 2-alarm fire in a house at 344 Biros Lane in Round Lake Park. When co’s arrived heavy fire thru-out entire attic & roof and part of 2nd floor as well as rear of house. Scott Peterson
Colleton County (SC) Fire-Rescue units were sent to 304 Carolina Circle north of Walterboro, Wednesday morning 16-November at 03:02. Engine 19 arrived to find a single-story residential dwelling with flames visible from the roof. All occupants had safely exited the structure. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to combat the fire which was burning throughout the attic. Crews pulled the ceilings in several rooms to reach the flames. It appeared the fire originated in the chimney and spread to the attic. The electrical service line burned through and fell from the home. When the power went off, the occupants were awakened and discovered the fire which had already burned through a portion of the roof and they alerted 9-1-1.
Firefighters worked for about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, but were on the scene for three hours. Most of the fire damage was contained to the attic and roof, however the remainder of the home suffered water and smoke damage. Many personal items were saved. Water supply was handled with Tenders.
Engine 19, Engine 26, Tender 1, Tender 5, Tender 19, Tender 26, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 107, Car 110 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O’Quinn served as Incident Commander.

Palatine (IL) firefighters were called to 308 W. Slade Street Thursday evening for a house fire. Arriving companies found a single-family house with nothing showing. Police officers had helped a resident out who was treated by paramedics and refused transport to a hospital.
As firefighters found the seat of the fire, they were informed that an elderly woman had not made it out. She was located and brought outside where paramedics were unable revive her.
