Chicago firefighters were called to 2501 N. Keeler Avenue Monday afternoon (4/2/19) for a fire in a commercial food plant. When companies arrived, the fire was already in an advanced stage and burning in the center section of a long building with a sawtooth roofline. The alarm was eventually upgraded to a 5-11 and kept companies busy until late into the night. Some units were at the scene overnight and into t he next day.

Took this in on Friday (3/15/19). A clubhouse/restaurant at the Chapel Hill Golf Club in McHenry, IL. Unusual to see a building this large used as a burn down. The video and all the images can be seen here:

The city had been buffeted by sustained high winds for a full day at the time of this job, and still high wind gusts throughout the event as well as miserably cold conditions. Two buildings were involved with some minor communication to a 3rd larger building. I believe the original fire building may have been a pizza joint. Rumor had it that high winds caused arcing power lines which ignited the siding, though I’m not sure how accurate this is. The streets in this area were raised so from street level they appear to be single-story buildings but in the rear they are two stories, a unique situation in this area. Took this in around 2230 Tuesday night at 2258 S. Blue Island Avenue in Chicago. It sounded promising. A metal clad warehouse butted up against another building. Interesting that the size-up was no exposure problem yet it seemed obvious that there was a high potential, in fact they reported some fire in the adjoining building on fireground. Sunday (2/25) was an intensely windy day in the Chicago area which made for difficult firefighting conditions. The second 2-11 alarm for Chicago on this day was at 88th Street and Commercial Avenue and started in a pizza parlor that had occupied that address since the 1950’s. The fire was reported to have started in the rear of the structure and heavy winds blowing across from the west quickly escalated the incident. Eric Haak

The Palatine FD (IL) received multiple calls reporting a house on fire at 635 E. Thornhill Drive late Monday night (1/28/19). A header was visible while companies were en route and the response was upgraded to a Code 4 Working Fire. Arriving units found fire traveling up the outside of the house in the B-sector. The fire was extinguished quickly with minimal extension inside the house.
