Public safety officers from three departments fought a fully-involved dwelling fire in Oak Park MI Sunday morning January 8, 2023. Four handlines and one aerial were used to bring the fire under control. Oak Park responded with Engine 2 and Ladder 1. Mutual aid was received from Berkley Tower 4 and Huntington Woods Engine 70.
After being dispatched to a working fire at an unknown address because of the volume of 911 calls, firefighters from the North Maine FPD (Des Plaines, IL) followed a header and travelled less than 1/2 mile to 9320 Noel Street in unincorporated Maine Township. They pulled up to heavy fire blowing out what was left of one unit of a four-unit, two-story apartment building. The entire front of the second unit from the street had been blown out. The alarm was upgraded to a Working Fire and then a MABAS Box Alarm, followed within minutes by an upgrade to the 2nd Alarm.
Multiple hand lines and three elevated master streams were used to battle the fire, the majority of which had been knocked down prior to my arrival.
Here are a few images from a fire in Chicago’s 8th Battalion the morning of 12/30. 25 x 50, 2-story ordinary, occupied, with slight communication to the “B” exposure. Engine Companies 125 and 68 with Truck Companies 53 and 29.
Firefighters from Wheeling and Prospect Heights (IL) responded to an outside fire at 25 Versailles Court on the morning of 12/4/22 at 9:30. Wheeling Engine 23 arrived and reported a fire on the ‘D’ side of the house and upgraded the alarm to a working fire. Flames engulfed the west side of the house along with an outdoor structure, and impinged on the second floor. There was an exposure concern to the house on the ‘D’ side but the fire was contained with what was apparently only damage to the vinyl siding on the neighbor’s house.
Several lines were deployed and Tower 24 went to the roof. The fire appeared to be contained within 15 minutes.
Still and Box at 5922 W Erie in Chicago (IL), 2 1/2-story frame, 25×50, totally involved. Box on arrival by Truck 29
Got there 3-4 minutes after 96 and the group. Tower Ladder 14 members were on the roof.
Right after the 4th image was taken, 2-2-4 ordered members off the roof since there were no lines on the second floor and conditions were deteriorating in the attic beneath them.
Chicago’s 6th Battalion had a basement fire at 1515 W 55th Street Tuesday night (12/20/22). Companies were faced with heavy fire in the basement that extended up the plumbing wall into the upper floors. Three lines were led out, and TL39 made numerous holes in the roof. These shots were about 15 minutes into the fire.
The North Maine FPD (in Illinois) along with firefighters from Des Plaines and Niles were sent to a somewhat remote location in unincorporated Des Plaines for a house fire Friday morning (12-2-22). The large house at 9609 Reding Circle sits on a small lake off of Golf Road and I-294. Reding Circle is a narrow, private road with minimal access.
As smoke was reported on arrival, the alarm was upgraded to a working fire, and it wasn’t long before flames were venting through the roof of the vacant house. Companies made an interior attack and were pulled out to transition into a defensive attack with aerial operations. Three trucks were put to work with master streams.
The alarm was upgraded again to a MABAS Box Alarm, although most of those mutual aid companies were not put to work.
