October 19 2015, Waterloo Ontario fire was dispatched to an unknown type structure fire on Dutton Drive at 16:10. Dispatch was inundated with 911 calls due to the heavy black smoke. I was in Guelph approximately 11 miles from the scene and could see heavy black smoke from the fire before the first trucks were on the air. All four Waterloo stations plus additional night shift firefighters battled the fire at the new light rail transit maintenance shop which was under construction. The fire was on the roof, due to concerns of structural integrity, crews had to fight the fire with two aerial trucks. Fire was declared under control at 19:30. A1 remained on scene for 24 hours working on hot spots. The Ontario Fire Marshall was called in to help with the investigation as the damage will exceed $500,000.
