The Barrington Countryside FPD (IL) was called for a house fire at 2 Windridge Road in South Barrington Monday (5/18/15) around 1PM. Arriving units found sections of the cedar shake roof on fire and requested a MABAS Box Alarm. As the wind was prevalent, the alarm was upgraded to a 2nd Alarm and then a 3rd Alarm as companies were withdrawn front the house for an exterior attack. The house is located in an area that does not have conventional hydrants. There is a dry hydrant located by a small lake behind the house and tankers were used to shuttle water for the attack.

Several hand lines were used, some applying foam before firefighters went back into the house after a section of the roof was burned off to chase hot spots and extinguish the balance of the fire. As a side note … there was a sizable fire pit smoldering in the backyard, up wind of the house. Mutual aid from 24 departments assisted the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District.

05/14/15 Bridgeport, CT – Companies arrived to find heavy fire in the rear of the dwelling that rapidly extended throughout the structure.  Companies battled the fire for about a half hour before withdrawing from the house for a defensive attack.  Fire vented the roof areas in several places before being knocked down by Ladder 10’s pipe.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  No one was injured in the fire.

Cambridge (Ontario) firefighters were dispatched to 1932 Seaton Road on May 13 for a barn fire at 05:45. Cambridge covers this area for the first hour for North Dumfries Township. Three quints, a pumper, a tanker, a rescue and the Platoon Chief responded to the fire in the century-old stone barn. North Dumfries was requested to send their tankers while crews were responding. The barn was fully-involved and all firefighting was defensive.

A fully restored 1954 International tractor, and a 1931 Model A Ford (98% restored) were lost in the fire. Water was shuttled from a hydrant approximately three miles from the fire.  Crews were on scene until 11:00. Box 690 provided rehab for five hours.

Niles (IL) firefighters were called to 8115 Ottawa Avenue Tuesday around 1:30PM (5/12/15). The first arriving units reported heavy fire and smoke from the rear of the two-story residence and upgraded to the Code 4 (working fire). There was a report of a person trapped on the second floor, though it turned out that with the assistance of neighbors on the ground, the occupant jumped from the second floor window with minor injuries.

Access to the rear of the house was excellent via a commercial parking lot off Milwaukee Avenue right behind the house. As Niles units prepared to make entry from the front, Morton Grove Engine 5 (supplied by North Maine Engine 1) deployed their deck gun from the rear. The fire was contained within 15 minutes.

05/07/15 12 Kimberly Ave. West Haven, CT – Shortly after 4 pm West Haven Fire Department started receiving multiple calls for a brush fire from passing motorists on nearby I-95. First-in companies found a rapidly advancing marsh fire. The box was filled out bringing additional companies. A second alarm was requested along with a special call for New Haven’s fireboat. The fire rapidly progressed toward the train tracks where it burned overhead cantanery wires causing two large electrical arcs. Train service was halted until the fire could be brought under control. Ironically, the train tracks would serve as a natural fire break allowing companies and the fireboat to get control of the blaze.
