The Highland Park Fire Department received a report of a house fire at 2776 Oak Street, located at the far northern edge of town along the Ft Sheridan property and the lakefront. A Commonwealth Edison worker reported smoke coming from the house. The alarm dispatch went right to the Code 4 for the working fire, bringing all Highland Park units in addition to Highwood, Countryside, and Deerfield.
Upon arrival, the size up mentioned smoke showing from two sides. Firefighters found a well involved kitchen fire that was contained quickly. The occupants were not home at the time. Firefighters brought a cat out of the house and administered oxygen. Reportedly another cat perished.
Tim Olk submitted these images from the scene.
Chicago firefighters battled a commercial fire at midnight in a 75×100 building at 75th Street and Martin Luther King Drive. The alarm was upgraded quickly from a working fire to a 2-11 Alarm. Two tower ladders went to work along with multiple hand lines.
