Chief 9 reported smoke showing before even going on scene, Engine 50 went on scene and reported they were stretching on a dwelling. Chief 9 arrived on scene and reported a two-story vacant dwelling with fire throughout and that they were going to take a defensive posture.
We were about 15 minutes away when companies started going en route.
On Monday July 7th 2014, Detroit 1st Battalion companies were dispatched to a reported vacant dwelling fire at Ellery and Gratiot. Engine 41 arrived on the scene and reported two vacant dwellings totally involved. Engine 41 stretched on the the vacant two-story dwellings and setup for defensive operations. Chief 1 arrived on the scene and assumed command and requested an extra engine for manpower. This fire was fought in defensive mode for an hour before it was brought under control. Engines 41/9/17, Ladder 6, Squad 3, and Chief 1 responded to this incident.
