Orange 2nd alarm 612 Chestnut Ridge Rd.
12/18/19 Orange, CT – Orange firefighters arrived to find a well-involved, occupied, private dwelling. Mutual aid was requested for manpower from West Haven and Woodbridge. Companies went in service with 2 1/2″ hand lines. West Haven placed Truck 1’s aerial in service to assist in darkening down the fire. Companies had to battle frigid temperatures, icy road conditions, and a lack of water to finally bring the fire under control about two hours later. The occupants escaped the blaze prior to the fire department’s arrival. One firefighter from Orange was evaluated on the scene. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire marshal’s office.

2-Alarm fatal fire in West Haven, CT – October 30, 2019

West Haven fatal 2nd alarm 221 Tetlow St.
10/30/19 West Haven, CT – Firefighters arrived to find smoke showing from both floors of a two-story private dwelling. They were alerted while enroute that one occupant was reported trapped. Members of Truck 1 arrived and started forcible entry and searches under colliers mansion conditions. One handicapped victim was located on the first floor. Members had difficulty with removal due to the hoarding conditions. The fire rapidly extended to the second floor and through the roof. Firefighters were withdrawn due to the conditions and darkened down the fire with a quick exterior attack. The victim was pronounced at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state and local fire marshal.

Working fire in Bridgeport, CT – November 23, 2019

Bridgeport, CT 92 Howard Ave commercial building:
11/23/19 Bridgeport, CT – West end companies arrived to find a one-story, block-long building heavily involved with fire through the roof. Companies went into service with 2 1/2″ hand lines, one tower ladder, and an aerial master stream fed by the fire boat. The fire was knocked down within fifteen minutes from time of arrival. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire marshals office.

Yonkers General alarm fire 1 Garrett Place

03/12/19 – A plumber soldering pipes in a sixth floor bathroom touched off a fire which burned unnoticed for an undetermined amount of time. The fire is believed to have spread via a pipe chase and into the cockloft before being noticed and reported. It then spread rapidly throughout the cockloft of this block-long, occupied, multiple dwelling. Firefighters were outmatched as the fire had a head start on them. They were soon called off the roof and out of the building as conditions rapidly deteriorated. Multiple alarms were rapidly transmitted to bring all of Yonker’s firefighting force to the scene. Additional companies were brought in from surrounding towns throughout lower Westchester County to help fight the blaze. The fire burned across the entire complex before dropping down into apartments throughout the building. Multiple ladders, master streams, and hand lines from surrounding rooftops were deployed. The fire burned for close to twelve hours before being declared under control at five a.m the next morning. Hundreds of civilians were displaced and several firefighters sustained minor injuries.

02/08/19 West Haven, CT – A long vacant dwelling at 24-26 Richards Pl. was the scene of a wind driven fire in a neighborhood filled with blocks of vacant dwellings. Firefighters had access problems due to the street being blocked off by barriers. High winds rapidly spread the flames throughout the vacant dwelling. An exposure was severely threatened prompting a second alarm to be transmitted. Firefighters went to work using multiple two and a half hand lines, multi-versals, and an aerial to darken down and stop the spread of the fire. The fire took about forty five minutes to bring under control. The cause is being investigated by the fire marshal.

West Haven 2nd alarm 37 Water St. vacant commercial building
02/17/19 West Haven, CT – Firefighters were called to fight another abandoned building fire in an area slated for redevelopment. Firefighters found a two-story, commercial building with heavy fire through the roof. A second alarm was transmitted on arrival bringing additional city units. Two aerials, three multi-versals, and several hand lines were deployed to bring the fire under control. The state fire marshal was called in again to assist the local marshals with the investigation.
