Around 8 pm reports of a house on fire in the 2800 block of Glenarye Dr. in Lindenhurst (IL) began flooding FoxCom dispatch. Lake Villa FPD units arrived to find a large, two-story home well-involved. Companies went defensive and protected exposures on both sides. Mutual aid from Antioch, Gurnee, and Newport arrived to assist, but with a combination of the high winds, extreme cold temps, and the body of fire found on arrival, the home was a total loss. Exposures on either side recieved minor damage. Jeff Rudolph

Spring Grove, IL – McHenry County FPD responded to a fire at 6316 Johnsburg rd. Due in part to the size of the structure and the lack of hydrants in the area, command upgraded to the Box and eventually up to the third alarm for tenders. The fire was quickly knocked down and kept from extending into the residence.

Wilmette (IL) companies responded to an automatic fire alarm at the Woman’s Club of Wilmette, 930 Greenleaf Avenue around 10AM Tuesday morning (2/17/15). Upon rounding the corner, smoke was visible through the roof and the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 (working fire).

The occupants were out of the building when the fire department arrived and firefighters made an initial interior attack before being forced to withdraw. The alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm for additional companies.

Four aerial master streams were operating along with several hand lines. A large collapse occurred on the B-Side of the structure that took down power lines.

Departments that assisted were Northbrook, Evanston, Morton Grove, Winnetka, Lincolnwood, Glenview, Northfield, Des Plaines, and Skokie.

Newport pulled box 14-48 to the 3rd alarm for a well-involved house that was also the office of a lawn sprinkler service. A tender shuttle supplied water to multiple handlines and then into Zion’s truck. Heavy fire consumed the house as crews where forced to fight from the outside. Jeff Rudolph

Here are some photos I took at Wadsworth’s 3RD Level Box on Sunday (11-16-14). I was down the street with a friend when we saw the smoke. I didn’t have a radio on me to see what was going on. We drove down towards the smoke and saw the fire. Newport had just gotten on the scene with the first Engine when I arrived. I got some photos of the apparatus and the house. There was a fire in the garage the previous night. Took to long too be a rekindle. This fire is now under investigation.

Detroit, MI 08/03/14  0530 hrs.

E42 returning from a fire down the street came across this vacant 4-flat apartment building going throughout. E42 asked for the Box sending E40, L17 and S5. Chief 2 responded in place of Chief 5, who was still at the other fire. An additional engine for manpower was called for. A defensive posture was taken, and exposures where covered. The fire eventualy spread to the roof of a vacant 2-story house in sector B, but was quickly extinguished. The original fire building collapsed, and crews where able to extinguish the remaining fire, followed by extensive overhaul.
