Box Alarm house fire in Prospect Heights, IL – November 3, 2014

The Prospect Heights FD (IL) was alerted to a house fire around 3AM today (Monday, 11/3/14) at 1201 N. Stratford Road. While en route they were notified that a 14-year old boy was trapped inside and the other family members were outside. Several police officers attempted to search for the boy but were forced out by heavy fire conditions and smoke.

Arlington Heights Engine 2 was the first unit on-scene with heavy fire in the center of the house. The street is without hydrants and supply lines were dropped to an Arlington Heights street in one direction and to a shopping center across a four-lane road at the other end. Water was a problem for a short time as Engine 2 experienced mechanical issues that prevented supplying the lines. Additional lines were supplied from Prospect Heights Tower 9.

A Box Alarm was requested along with several additional ambulances as the two adults from the house and three police officers required medical attention. One ambulance was held for a possible rescue of the missing boy.

It was determined that the boy was not at home and he was later found elsewhere. Two people were transported to the hospital.

2-Alarm fire in Manchester, CT – October 23, 2014

Manchester, Ct responded to 77 Laurel St for smoke in the basement and arrived to heavy smoke showing. A 2nd alarm was struck when the fire extended from the basement to floors #1 and #2.

Basement fire, Kildeer, IL – October 13, 2014

Long Grove (IL) firefighters responded along with mutual-aid companies to a reported basement fire at 20900 Middleton Drive in Kildeer late Monday evening. Smoke was visible on arrival and firefighters entered the house with a line to find a fire in the furnace area of the basement.

The house was filled with smoke, but no extension was discovered.

Working fire in Chicago – October 13, 2014

Shortly after midnight (Monday morning), a CPD patrol car radioed in a fire at 5757 S. Hermitage stating that fire was blowing out of the front window. Only being 4 blocks from the address Josh & I took in the fire. We arrived just ahead of Engine 116 to find fire blowing out of the 1st floor front room and extending up the front of the 2-1/2, 25×50 frame. Engine 116 lead out a line to the front and hit the main body of fire from the outside while Tower 39 went to the roof for ventilation. Engine 123 backed down to Tower 39 and was setup to use their deck gun, but that order was canceled.

Great job by companies in knocking down this fire fast. This area of Hermitage has homes butted up to each other on the sides and this could have gotten out of control quickly.

3-Alarm fire in East Hartford, CT – October 4, 2014

East Hartford, CT had this 3rd alarm at 15 Bell Ct. on 10/4/14 @0630. Members made numerous rescues via ground ladders with people jumping as well. 5 civilians were transported to local hospitals.

Crown Point (IN) burn down – Spetember 29, 2014

I came across this burn down by the Crown Point (IN) Fire Department the other night (9-29-14) as I was driving along I65. It didn’t take me long to get to the site from the highway, but the structure had already collapsed. Nonetheless, I couldn’t pass a building on fire without stopping to take some photos.

They had just completed three days of training scenarios in this house.
