Wheeling (IL) firefighters were called to 298 Tilbury Lane in the Whippletree Village just before 3AM on Monday, 4-18-16. When units arrived they reported fire in a mobile home and upgraded to the Code 4 for the working fire. The flames were knocked down within 10 minutes and they were on the scene doing overhaul for another hour. Mutual aid units came from Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, and Northbrook. I arrived just after the 10-minute time stamp.

Chicago firefighters were called to a laundromat at 5130 W. Fullerton Avenue after 2AM Monday morning (4/4/16) and found heavy fire in a one-story, 60×100, commercial building with a bow-string truss roof. The building had no immediate exposures with parking lots on either side. After venting the roof, companies went defensive with Tower Ladder 14 setup to the west and Squad 2A to the east. There was a special call for an additional tower ladder which brought Tower Ladder 23 to the front of the building. Two multi-versals and the three elevated master streams inundated the building with water for two hours.

Heavy fire vented out the front of the building burning a car parked at the curb. The utility company was called to shut off gas to the building as a gas fed fire burned freely near the front.

Libertyville (IL) firefighters were called to an address in Green Oaks (their fire district, an unincorporated area of Lake County) after a smoke alarm woke the resident. He looked out the window and saw flames from a van parked alongside the attached garage. The first engine pulled into the driveway six minutes later and dumped the tank through a deck gun as flames were already through the roof. The area has no hydrants and they were subsequently nursed by their tanker and then other tankers shuttled into place. There were no injuries and the fire was kept from communicating to the house.

Chicago firefighters battled a 4-11 Alarm fire with a Special Alarm for two additional chiefs and three additional trucks at 4540 W. Haddon Avenue at a flea market. The building measured approximately 100×200 and was bordered on one side by railroad tracks that were on an embankment even with the roof f the one-story building. Part of the structure was a covered parking garage with additional parking on the roof. Several of the cars fell into the building as the roof sections collapsed.

Tower Ladder 14 had their brand new E-ONE unit and new Air Mask Unit 6-4-6 was also at the scene. Aerial Tower 1, the only straight ladder with a pre-piped waterway was called to the scene as well at Turret Wagon 6-7-6. The fire was dispatched around 9:30 am and was struck out in the early evening, though relief companies were at the ruins all night.

Park Ridge (IL) firefighters responded to a house fire at 105 Elmore Street Thursday morning 2/18/16. RED Center received a call at 7:43 am reporting a fire with the possibility of two trapped occupants and dispatched the fire immediately as a Code 4 for the working fire. Within minutes a neighbor reported that the residents were out of the house. Park Ridge Battalion 35 arrived and reported heavy fire in the rear with an exposure on each side of the fire unit. Companies made quick work of knocking down the fire and containing the flames. The residents were treated at the scene after inhaling smoke but both refused transport.

Wheeling firefighters were called just before 4pm to 195 Cindy Lane for a report of smoke in the house. Within minutes the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for the working fire and police arrived reporting that the house was fully involved. Two residents that had gotten out of the house were transported to Northwest Community Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The size up from the first fire unit on the scene was fire visible through the roof of the single-family home. Companies made an aggressive interior attack with fire in the attic and the second floor. The homeowner was reportedly doing some plumbing and sweating pipes when the fire broke out.
