Kitchener (ON) dispatch received multiple calls for shipping containers on fire at the rear of Sci-lab Material Testing at Beasley and Trillium Drive November 22. Pump 6 reported they had a black thermal column from a few blocks away. The initial report was the trailer on fire contained dust, and a second trailer contained diesel fuel. P6 firefighters pulled a 1.5” line to attack the fully involved trailer. The fire was knocked down in a couple of minutes. All shots taken approximately 10 minutes after the fire was knocked down. Kitchener (ON) fire dispatch received multiple calls for black smoke coming out of an abandoned building at 755 King Street East November 17, 2016 at 7:31. The building was formerly a used car dealership, and is just a block east of last week’s bar fire. Pump 2 could see the smoke as they got near the scene and requested an additional pumper. P2 firefighters pulled two 2.5” lines to attack the fire. A large pile of tires was burning in the front of the structure. The fire was knocked down in 25 minutes. Box 690 provided rehab.
Kitchener (ON) fire dispatch toned out Wilmot Township Baden station for a confirmed structure fire at Snyders Road E and Brubacher Street November 8 at 16:25. Baden requested a second alarm adding Wilmot Township New Hamburg station to the call before they left the hall. Baden P1 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire and smoke showing from an empty, former commercial building. All crews were advised by command to stay out of the building, strictly a defensive attack. Small and large lines were pulled around the structure. Command requested a third alarm from the township’s remaining station in New Dundee. Forty firefighters battled the fire for several hours before bringing it under control. Four pumpers and New Hamburg’s quint were used to supply water to the fire. The fire was declared under control at 21:30 and out just after midnight. Box 690 provided rehab.
Kitchener Ontario firefighters battled their second working fire in two days November 4, 2016 at 22:50. Dispatch received multiple calls for a fire at Canada’s Best Value Inn at 1175 Victoria Street North. The location is a couple of minutes from my house. I arrived on scene as P2 was pulling into the motel. They had heavy fire venting from a second floor unit. All Kitchener pumpers have two pre-connected 200’ 1.5” attack lines on their front bumpers. P2 firefighters pulled the first line and had the bulk of the fire knocked down from the parking lot in less than a minute, before I could get my camera out of my bag after walking over quickly from an adjoining parking lot. Textbook knock down. Firefighters went interior to knock down the remaining hot spots and pull the ceiling. There was no extension to either side or to the attic. Box 690 provided rehab.
Kitchener Ontario fire battled a 2-Alarm fire November 3, 2016 at 03:20. P2 arrived at Marina’s Bar at 323 King Street East in the downtown section of town reporting the building fully-involved in the rear and requested two additional pumpers to the scene. The fire spread quickly through the all-wood structure. All firefighting was defensive from the start. Multiple 2.5” lines were pulled at the front and rear of the structure. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to a two-story building on the E2 side and a 2.5-story building on E4 housing businesses on the lower levels and apartments above. Damage has been pegged at $500,000, origin of fire is still under investigation. Box 690 on scene six hours providing rehab.
