I was in Maryland recently and took in a 2-Alarm fire at 224 Percheron Drive in the town of Gambrills in Anne Arundel County. There was a major storm passing through the area and this was most likely the result of a lightning strike. The fire was out when I got there and a second storm cell came through. In addition to the county units, multiple departments were at the scene including Glen Burnie, Fort Meade, BWI Airport, and Earleigh Heights.

Working fire in Lincolnshire, IL – August 14, 2016

The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD (IL) responded to a fire at 840 Inverrary Lane at 4:30 Sunday morning (8/14/16). The first arriving unit was met by the homeowner that had evacuated the unit and reported flames on the lower level of the split-level unit. They encountered hoarder conditions and made their way downstairs where a ruptured water line that fed the washing machine was keeping the fire from expanding rapidly.

The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for the working fire which brought mutual aid companies from Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, Lake Zurich, and Wheeling, along with chief officers from Deerfield and Countryside. A Northbrook ambulance was later called to transport the homeowner to the hospital.

Water rescue in Wheeling, IL – August 8, 2016

Wheeling (IL) firefighters along with mutual aid companies from several surrounding towns were sent to the area of 9930 Capitol Drive on Monday afternoon (8/8/16) for a reported car into a pond with people trapped. Wheeling Chief 2400 was the first on the scene advising that a car was perched over a concrete retaining wall with at least one occupant inside. Along with the divers and boats that were en route, an urgent request was made for a tow truck to secure the car so firefighters could retrieve the driver.

Several of the incoming units were returned after the nature of the incident was known and work began to secure the SUV and then remove the driver, who proved to be the only occupant.

Reportedly, the elderly driver suffered from some type of medical event causing him to hit two cars and shear off a hydrant prior to ending up on the retaining wall.

While flying back from Sacramento on Sunday, 7/24/16, I spotted this wildfire in Utah, somewhere south of Salt Lake City.

As the pilot was unable to give me any better information on the location of the fire, I pulled up this map which shows three possible matches for what I photographed out the airplane window.

On Thursday morning, 7/28/16, Gurnee (IL) firefighters responded to a fire at a propane storage company that reconditions and fills portable tanks. As the fire spread throughout the multitude of used and open tanks, the area was evacuated due to a concern for the main storage vessels. The fire eventually went to 7-Alarms, something extremely rare in the Chicago area. Two tower ladders, a deck gun, an ARFF units and several multi-verbals were used to extinguish the fire and keep the large tanks cool.

A tractor-trailer caught fire after knocking down a utility pole while trying to turn around on Johnson Road in Forest Park, GA Tuesday, July 19th. The Clayton County Fire Department responded and was forced to standby for well over an hour while waiting for Georgia Power to arrive at the scene and cut the power.

Chicago firefighters battled a 2-11 Alarm fire with a Level I haz mat Monday (7/11/16) in a salvage yard at 3033 E. 106th Street. One tower ladder, Squad 5’s Snorkel, Engine 2 (the fire boat), and several multi-versals were at work for several hours.
