House fire in Antioch, IL – May 7, 2018

05/07/18 – Antioch,IL

Antioch pulled MABAS box 21-A1 to the box level for a house fire at 272 Cedarwood ln. Crews found heavy fire in the rear of the house extending to all levels of the interior.

Working fire in Cambridge, ON – May 1, 2018

Cambridge (ON) fire dispatch 9-1-1 lines lit up May 1 at 17:00 reporting a townhouse on fire at 135 Chalmers Street South. Four of the five Cambridge stations responded. P5 arrived first and reported two, possibly three town houses fully involved. Firefighters picked up three hydrants and set up A4 to attack the fire. The fifth station was added shortly after the PC arrived on scene and took command. Crews successfully trenched the roof preventing the fire from spreading further down the block. The fire was knocked down in 45 minutes. Damage has been set at $1,000,000. The Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire. All occupants and animals were able to get safely out of their units.

Grass fire in Wilmot Township, ON – May 1, 2018

Kitchener (ON) fire dispatch toned out New Dundee fire for a small brush fire at 2022 Huron Road May 1 at 14:00. The initial report was a small brush fire the size of a back yard. It was a windy warm day so Baden Fire was requested knowing the fire would likely spread quickly. A New Dundee deputy chief arrived on scene reporting heavy smoke and a large field on fire with a turkey barn to the east as an exposure. New Hamburg was requested as the third station to assist in stopping the spread of the field fire. Pumpers were set up at the 2022 Huron Road and at 1918 Huron Road beside the turkey barn. Firefighters were able to stop the fire 100 feet from the barn. New Hamburg’s pumper drove through the next property to the east which was a gravel pit to get the north end of the field. Crews worked for over an hour to control the fire, then another half hour on a wood pile and large tree that were on fire near the origin of the blaze. The owner of the property was burning some wood and the high winds pushed the fire into the field. Box 690 provided rehab at the fire, the first of four we attended over the next six hours. Photos taken during mop up approximately half an hour into the call.

Working fire in Colleton County, SC – May 4, 2018

Colleton County (SC) firefighters saved a home at 315 Enterprise Street Friday morning 04-May. At 08:27, Colleton 9-1-1 received a report that the home was on fire and the caller could see flames coming from a window. Engine 19 arrived to find the single-story, residential dwelling with heavy smoke visible and flames on the Delta side and in the attic. Crews forced entry through the front door and deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to the interior of the building. They made a rapid search of the building to insure no one was inside. Conditions quickly worsened as two rooms flashed over and both interior crews were evacuated from the building. Firefighters began an exterior attack on the fire and after knocking down the flames, reentered the structure to extinguish the remainder of the fire. They had the fire under control within 20 minutes, saving most of the structure. Two rooms and a portion of the attic suffered heavy fire damage, but the remainder of the home suffered smoke and heat damage. No one was injured in the fire. Water supply was handled with tenders pumping truck to truck. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Units were on the scene for three hours.

Engine 1, Engine 19, Tender 1, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 112, Car 118 and Car 119 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.

2-Alarm house fire in Barrington Hills, IL – May 3, 2018

The Barrington Countryside FPD (IL) responded to a house fire early this morning (5/3/18) at 83 Paganica Drive in Barrington Hills. A header was visible as units were en route and they found heavy fire from the second floor and mansard roof upon arrival. The resident had evacuated the house. The area is without hydrants.  The first engine and tanker pulled into the driveway with 4,000 gallons of water as the second engine dropped a line to the end of the street to initiate a drafting operation from three portable tanks. Fourteen tankers shuttled water for over two hours to supply several hand lines that were operating. The house sustained heavy damage and the fire’s origin is believed to be a lightning strike.

House fire in Sycamore, IL – April 30, 2018

Here’s a pre-arrival pic of the “mulch” fire we had yesterday afternoon about 1500 hours.   Presented with heavy fire on three sides, SFD Engine 1 made a great hit on this one. Fire extended to the first floor front, attic and second floor.  See link for info on the first fire of the day, an old barn on Glidden Rd.
