New Haven Firefighters responding to a report of a kitchen fire arrived to find a three story, wood frame with heavy fire on the first floor. The fire rapidly extended throughout the dwelling, prompting Battalion Chief Gould to transmit the second alarm.  The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes.

There was evidence of a gas explosion on the number one side as part of the first floor was heavily damaged and bowed out. No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Rolling Meadows (IL) companies were called to 5201 Carriageway Drive for a reported fire in a third floor apartment around 8PM Wednesday evening (3/4/15). While en-route, they were advised of a sofa on fire with flames climbing the wall, and Battalion 15 upgraded the alarm to a Code 4 for the working fire.

Police arriving on the scene reported flames shooting out of a third floor window, and that a resident had jumped from a third floor balcony. The alarm was then upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm.

When firefighters arrived, police officers were performing CPR on the victim who later died.

The alarm was subsequently upgraded to a 2nd Alarm and then a 3rd Alarm before being struck out shortly before midnight.

03/01/15 New Haven, CT 922 Winchester Avenue dwelling fire

New Haven firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the top floor of this two and a half story, wood frame around three thirty a.m. Companies initially made an interior attack but were withdrawn due to a water supply issue. The fire soon took hold of the top floor and went through the roof. An exterior attack took about forty five minutes to darken down the fire before companies would regain entry to overhaul. All primary searches proved negative except for the removal of one family pet, a cat, which was found on the first floor. Several families were displaced. No one was injured in the blaze.

Bridgeport, Ct 2nd alarm 350 Hanover St. four houses

02/27/15 Bridgeport, CT – Shortly before one o’clock a box was transmitted for a structure fire at 350 Hanover St. Companies arrived to find they had already lost the fight when they had two, three-story, wood frames going throughout, with two more exposed. Companies could not enter the street due to conditions from previous snow storms, multiple wires down, and radiant heat. Multiple hand lines were stretched and operated as well as multi-versals plus one tower ladder. It took companies about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control. Twelve families were displaced. No one was injured.

New Haven, CT second alarm 68 Dickerman St.

03/01/15 New Haven, CT – Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the second floor of this two and a half story dwelling. An interior attack was initiated, however a bad hydrant caused a delay in getting water. A primary search resulted in one victim being pulled from the fire floor. A second alarm was transmitted by orders of Battalion Chief Gould. The fire extended into the third floor before companies were able to bring the fire under control. One firefighter was transported with burns to the lower extremities and one victim was transported in critical condition. The state and local fire marshal’s divisions along with New Haven PD are investigating the cause of the blaze.
