1st and Madison in Maywood, IL 1/25/17. It was over when I arrived but I was able to see and shoot Maywood’s brand new engine as well as the newer Bellwood TL. Steve Redick
Took a ride to the 4300 block of Henderson (in Chicago) for fire in a small house described as hoarder conditions. The house was on a dead-end street to a railroad embankment. The truck arrived first I believe so both engines backed into the block to lead out, eventually both using the same hydrant. Engine 91 hooked up to Engine 7’s gate valve. A massive tree prevented any use of a tower or aerial ladder making roof access by ground ladder only. A tough job for all concerned but carried out in short order. Steve Redick
9476 Bay Colony Drive in unincorporated Des Plaines, IL – the North Maine FPD – fire on the third floor of a 40×40 multi-unit apartment building. Steve Redick photos
Took in an unusual job at 4225 N Knox in Chicago (10/28/16). A worker was atop a large water tower when he had a medical issue and needed help getting down. CFD sent a full tech rescue response. TL 23 was just able to make the catwalk around the base of the tank with the tower bucket and they ferried personnel and gear to that level. Members made an anchor point and using a safety harness assisted the man down the gooseneck ladder from the top of the tank to the catwalk. It appeared the victim was able to do most of this on his own and it looked like a smooth safe operation. All photos can be seen here
Tuesday (10/25/16), 2047 Cermak Rd. in Chicago. One-story restaurant with exposures to two similar. There was heavy fire in the rear of the building when companies arrived and the fire eventually consumed the entire building of origin, but due to solid brick walls between sides A and D the fire seemed confined to only one structure. This is normally a congested, densely populated neighborhood and the sidewalks are elevated, making the gangways 1/2-story below ground as well as allowing for some unusual basement access.TL 5, Squad 1, a multi-versal and a point of vantage line were used and heavy smoke conditions were present for well over an hour. This was an interesting job that yielded some nice images. The video as well as all the images can be seen here
