02/08/19 West Haven, CT – A long vacant dwelling at 24-26 Richards Pl. was the scene of a wind driven fire in a neighborhood filled with blocks of vacant dwellings. Firefighters had access problems due to the street being blocked off by barriers. High winds rapidly spread the flames throughout the vacant dwelling. An exposure was severely threatened prompting a second alarm to be transmitted. Firefighters went to work using multiple two and a half hand lines, multi-versals, and an aerial to darken down and stop the spread of the fire. The fire took about forty five minutes to bring under control. The cause is being investigated by the fire marshal.

2-24-19:

Chicago FD Ambulance 77 reported smoke from the roof of a 3-sty building at 1838 S. St. Louis 2/24/19. The Main Fire Alarm Office filled it out and gave the 14th Battalion a working fire right away. Engine 38 arrived and had heavy fire showing from a 3-sty brick, three-flat in the rear, extending to the exposure to the south. Battalion 14 boxed it shortly after his arrival. Chicago was experiencing very high winds gusting upwards of 50MPH. After trying to make the 3rd floor, the chief pulled all companies out of the building to regroup. Multiple handlines were dropped from 38 and 109. I believe that the 2-11 was requested for manpower.   A full gallery can be found here

Cambridge (ON) fire dispatch received a 9-1-1 call for fire in a large industrial complex February 22, 2019 at 19:25. A3, P1, A6, P2, R1, and Car 6 were dispatched on the first alarm. A3 arrived on scene reporting light smoke showing from a middle unit of a 225 x 60’ industrial building. The fire had a good hold of the roof. The roof was steel on top and bottom and had multiple layers of asphalt from repairs and new roofs added to the building over the years.

Both aerials and multiple hand lines were pulled to attack the fire as firefighters did what they could to peel the roofing off to get at the fire. The roof was buckling, so no firefighters were allowed near the seat of the fire. Trench cuts were made to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent units. This was a very stubborn fire. Overtime crews were called in to staff spare apparatus. All six stations and the overtime crews were rotated to the scene to fight the fire. The fire was not declared out until 8:25 the following morning after a lot of hard word. Box 690 provided rehab at the fire. Photos and video taken two hours into the fire.

Kitchener (ON) Fire dispatch toned out P4, P3, A1, and Car 23 for a possible fire at 155 Kinzie Ave February 21, 2019 at 10:30. Responding crews were updated by police that there was heavy smoke in the building. P7 was added to the call at this point as R1 was out of service doing ice water rescue training. P4 arrived on scene with nothing visible, but quickly changed to smoke showing from the main floor. Two lines were pulled to the side door to attack the fire. The first line in worked on the main floor, and the second line went upstairs. There was very little fire, as it had mostly burned itself out. Regional Police and Kitchener fire prevention are investigating the cause of the suspicious fire. Photos and video shot a couple of minutes after crews arrived. Box 690 provided rehab for the fire.
