Cambridge (Ontario, Canada) Pump 5 was dispatched to 1498 Cheese Factory Road for a grass fire April 12, 2015 at 13:45. Cambridge covers this portion of North Dumfries Township (Waterloo County) for the first hour. P5 had smoke showing from the hall and requested their tanker to respond. P5 arrived on scene and reported a large field on fire and hundreds of large connected hale bales burning. They immediately requested a second tanker (North Dumfries) and an additional Cambridge crew to the scene (A1).
Cambridge firefighters worked to contain the fire which was spreading very quickly. North Dumfries responded with two pumpers and two 2,500-Imperial gallon tankers (3,000 US gallons). Once on scene they were tasked with assisting Cambridge firefighters in extinguishing the fast moving grass fire. An excavator was being used to create a fire break in the hay bales which were over 1,000 feet in length. Once the perimeter fires were knocked down, Cambridge picked up and returned to the station at 15:00.
Command requested crews respond from neighboring Brant County. St George firefighters responded with two 2,500-Imperial gallon tankers and 10 firefighters. Water was shuttled from a hydrant in Cambridge approximately a mile and a half from the scene, and from a hydrant in St George approximately four miles away. The fire was declared out at 18:15.
Box 690 Canteen was on scene 4.5 hours to provide rehab.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue (MD) units from the 3rd and 4th Battalions were alerted to a house fire early Friday morning. First arriving units encountered heavy fire showing from a large, single-family home. Crews initiated a fire attack knocking down the fire quickly. The fire was in a non-hydranted area of the Derwood section of the county, and firefighters utilized tankers and a folding supply tank to provide water for the firefight. Command was held by BC 703 and 704.
Firefighters worked for several hours chasing hotspots and performing overhaul. The canteen unit from Laytonsville (Co. 17) provided refreshments and hydration for the firefighting crews.

Another busy weekend for the Gary Fire Department. This was at the corner of 43rd and Georgia Street and was a one-story grocery store. As you can see in the third image, water pressure became an issue at one point. Lake Ridge was brought in as an additional engine company so that other Gary resources could remain in place. While this was an active incident, Engine 8 had a brush fire on the opposite side of town. Gary companies working this incident were Engines 9 and 5, Truck 2 and Squad 2.

Sunday afternoon (4/12/15) the Green Bay Metro Fire Department (WI) was working to put out a large grass fire near the Ken Euers Nature Area in Brown County.
The fire was on the north end of Military Avenue and north of I-43 near the bay. The area is mostly a park and wildlife sanctuary with some industrial businesses. No homes were affected.
Anyone stopping on I-43 to watch the fire was subject to being cited by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Fire early Sunday morning (4/12) in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. At approximately 0143, a Still & Box Alarm was given by the Main Fire Alarm Office for the report of people trapped in a building on fire at 22nd and Wolcott Avenue. First due companies arrived within one minute of the fire being boxed and reported that they had fire through the roof. About 0145, the 4th battalion chief requested an EMS Plan I and reported he had fire on all three floors. 2-2-1 took control of the fire at 0151 and ordered a 2-11 Alarm about 3 minutes later.
Just before 0200, companies were ordered out of the building and a defensive attack was initiated. For most of the incident, there were three master streams working with several hand lines. Tower Ladder 5 and Engine 23’s deck gun were in sector A and Squad 1A was positioned on Wolcott in sector D.
At around 0300, fire had got into the B side exposure’s cockloft (image 5). Tower Ladder 39 was then brought in as a 4th master stream. Engines 23, 18, and 39 were all pumping at the scene. Thankfully, all 21 individuals who lived in the building escaped without injury.
