New Haven (CT) Engine Six arrived and transmitted the signal 73 for a three story, residential over commercial with fire showing from the second floor. Companies stretched multiple lines and made quick work of the fire . The trucks opened up and found minor extension to the third floor and cockloft. The second alarm was transmitted for precautionary purposes due to the size of the structure and extension. No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Montgomery County Fire & Rescue units from the 3rd and 5th battalions, plus units from NIST, were toned out for fire in a shop, on Thursday, March 19, on Oakmont Ave. in Gaithersburg. First arriving units reported a commercial auto repair shop building fully involved. The working fire assignment and a rapid intervention dispatch was quickly filled. Firefighters were ordered to use defensive operations due to the amount of fire in the structure. Aerial tower ladders were deployed to protect exposures and the multiple vehicles surrounding the building.
I took in this Still & Box at 8106 S. Ada Sunday morning (3/22/15). The very first image in the set was taken 3 minutes after the Box was requested. I was about a quarter mile away and there was a decent amount of black smoke drifting across the sky. By the time I parked and walked around the corner, there was almost no smoke at all. Looks can be deceiving. There were communication problems with the “D” sector exposure which was vacant, and that was the reason for the Box. The occupancy of the initial building was said to be at church.
Flames and smoke were visible. Clintonville fire was able to extinguish the fire without assistance from any other fire department or the Department of Natural Resources. Two tenders (tankers), one engine, one brush unit, and an equipment truck were on-scene. No injuries were reported. Units remained on the scene for just over and hour.
Wheeling firefighters were called to 697 S. Merle for a fully-involved, detached garage fire. A header was visible while companies were en route and multiple 9-1-1 calls were received. The alarm was upgraded to the Code 4 for the working fire bringing mutual and auto-aid from Buffalo Grove, Prospect heights, Long Grove, and Arlington Heights.
Here are several images from the scene plus a video.
These images were taken around 1950 by an aspiring photographer whose last name was Augustyn but I do not have a first name.
The fire was on the Northeast corner of Diversey and Pulaski on the same lot as the Walgreens that is next to Engine 91’s house. The fire was in the Rainbo Lanes Bowling Alley. The truck closest to the building is Truck 35 and the one with its aerial up looks like Truck 13 although it is hard to read. The Water Tower is #2. Hope you enjoy them.
