2nd alarm dwelling fire 12/24/16 in New Haven, at 28 Stevens St.

New Haven (CT) firefighters went to work just after midnight Christmas morning for a fire involving two occupied dwellings. First arriving companies from the hill station found heavy fire venting from the second floor and rear of the original fire building. It quickly extended to the number four side exposure, a similar occupied dwelling. A second alarm was transmitted as firefighters attacked both dwellings. Multiple lines were stretched to darken down the heavy fire. Searches proved negative in both structures. The blaze took about an hour to bring under control. One person was transported to the hospital with burns. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Glenn Duda

New Haven 2nd alarm dwelling fire at 1475 Chapel St. – On 12/07/16, New Haven firefighters arrived to find a three-story, queen ann with heavy fire venting from the 1st floor, number 4 side. The fire quickly extended into the second and third floors prompting the transmission of the 2nd alarm. It took about an hour to bring under control as firefighters chased the fire throughout the structure. Multiple hand lines were stretched as trucks opened up to bring the fire under control. No one was injured in the blaze and the cause is under investigation by the FMO.

New Haven 2nd alarm 24 Downing St dwelling fire 08/14/16

New Haven (CT) firefighters were called to this address for an early morning dwelling fire. Companies found a heavy fire condition on the first floor of a two and a half wood frame, dwelling. Multiple lines were stretched as the heavy fire extended to the second floor. The house was occupied at the time of the morning fire. Initially, there were reports of one civilian unaccounted for, however the primary and secondary searches proved negative. Firefighters were able to knock the fire down within forty five minutes, but not  before heavy damage was done to the home. Multiple civilians were left homeless as a result.

12/19/15 New Haven, CT – A quiet Sunday morning shift change in New Haven quickly turned chaotic for firefighters in the hill section of the city. Companies arrived to find a two and a half story, wood frame, occupied dwelling heavily involved in fire and rapidly extending. Several occupants were trapped initially, but were removed by pd with a civilian ladder prior to the fire department’s arrival. A second alarm was transmitted as companies started an interior attack because due to reports of trapped civilians. Primary searches proved negative as conditions rapidly deteriorated. Members were pulled from the dwelling for an exterior attack. The fire rapidly extended throughout the structure as a result of the balloon frame construction. Multiple hand lines and master streams were operated for over an hour to bring the blaze under control. Several occupants were transported to area hospitals with various injuries. Several more were displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

New Haven 2nd alarm 155 Clay St.

12/06/15 New Haven, CT – First due Engine 10 reported a three-story, wood-frame with heavy fire on the second and third floors. The dwelling was occupied at the time of the fire which prompted the transmission of a second alarm by the battalion chief. All the occupants made it out safely. Companies made an interior attack before being backed out in favor of a quick exterior knockdown. Companies were then able to go in and finish up. The fire also extended to a similar style dwelling on the number four side, which was quickly brought under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
