Deerfield-Bannockburn firefighters were called for a house fire around noon on Friday (5/22/15) at 818 Forest Avenue. The alarm was upgraded by RED Center prior to companies arriving on-scene based on a report from police officers of smoke showing. They had fire on the first floor with smoke throughout of an older, two-story, frame house. Two lines were used and the bulk of the fire was knocked down within 10 minutes.

Units at the scene included Deerfield Engine 19 & 20, Ambulance 19, Truck 20, Battalion 20 and the chief officers plus Truck and Battalion 33 from Highland Park, Engine and Ambulance 52 from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Battalion 11 and Engine 10 from Northbrook, Morton Grove Squad 4, and Lake Forest Truck 421.

Here are some shots from the scene. I arrived about 15 minutes after the original dispatch.

The Barrington Countryside FPD (IL) was called for a house fire at 2 Windridge Road in South Barrington Monday (5/18/15) around 1PM. Arriving units found sections of the cedar shake roof on fire and requested a MABAS Box Alarm. As the wind was prevalent, the alarm was upgraded to a 2nd Alarm and then a 3rd Alarm as companies were withdrawn front the house for an exterior attack. The house is located in an area that does not have conventional hydrants. There is a dry hydrant located by a small lake behind the house and tankers were used to shuttle water for the attack.

Several hand lines were used, some applying foam before firefighters went back into the house after a section of the roof was burned off to chase hot spots and extinguish the balance of the fire. As a side note … there was a sizable fire pit smoldering in the backyard, up wind of the house. Mutual aid from 24 departments assisted the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District.

Here’s my video from the house fire in Barrington Hills, IL 4/18/15

Occupants that are currently renting the property at 24 Rolling Hills Drive, in Barrington Hills, IL were burning leaves Saturday afternoon (4/18/15) when the fire communicated to a tree before sending embers onto the house. The wind then caused the fire to spread rapidly. A 2nd Alarm was requested on arrival of Barrington & Countryside FPD units followed quickly by an upgrade to a 4th Alarm for tenders only. The 5th Alarm was requested later and then Interdivisional Alarms for a Tender task Force from neighboring Divisions 2 and 5. The previous alarms (which specified tenders only) were later filled out for the suppression companies which brought more personnel to the scene. Four counties were represented at this incident which included units from 6 MABAS Divisions.

The wind carried embers into the grass area behind the home igniting a prairie fire which spread to a large area near the electric transmission lines prompting a Special Alarm for brush fire assets.
