At 4:45 Sunday afternoon (7/31), I followed Chicago Engine 65 and Truck 52 down Archer Avenue to this working fire at 36th and Rockwell. They knocked it down from the back door and then went inside and mopped it up. The fire appeared to be contained to the back porches and was essentially out in a few minutes. Engine 65 was in the spare rig and Engine 39 dropped a second line through the front door.
On Thursday morning, 7/28/16, Gurnee (IL) firefighters responded to a fire at a propane storage company that reconditions and fills portable tanks. As the fire spread throughout the multitude of used and open tanks, the area was evacuated due to a concern for the main storage vessels. The fire eventually went to 7-Alarms, something extremely rare in the Chicago area. Two tower ladders, a deck gun, an ARFF units and several multi-verbals were used to extinguish the fire and keep the large tanks cool.
